For replanting established navel and Valen cia groves, trees on Troyer, stock are popular with county growers. Troyer stock makes better growth in old citrus soils than most other stocks.

That's why it is being used more frequently. Ellis pointed out to Jim that Troyer is a hybrid stock, and one of its parents is Trifoliate. This makes the Troyer subject to a virus disease known as exocartis. Like scaly-bark, exocartis is bud-transmitted. At present, the only way a grower can be sure trees on Troyer are free of exocartis is to buy nursery trees with nu-cellar orange tops.
