L. Dean of Postville, qualified to compete in the national finals of the High School Rodeo, August 6 to 11 at Topeka, Kansas. He is shown astride Red Bird, a quarter horse, which he rode to first place in the Boys' cutting contest at the Iowa High School Rodeo recently. He also placed third in the boys' calf roping contest. Red Bird has led the state in open cutting for the past three years.

This is the second such honor in the Dean family as their daughter, Dody, riding Red Bird, finished third in the finals of the national contest in 1964. Bicycle Licenses To Be Issued On July 20 And July 27 Bicycle licenses will be issued at City Park on Saturday, July 20, and at Memorial Hall, Saturday, July 27, from the hours of 9:00 a. m. to 4:00 p. m.

The Postville Jaycees and Hall Roberts will assist in the licensing. The ordinance requires that all bicycles shall be equipped with: Red reflector, or red light, inches in diameter on rear part of bicycle; suitable horn or bell; brake which will make braked wheel skid on dry and clean pavement. Extension Council Budget Announced The Extension Council of Allamakee county will meet Monday, August 5, 9:00 p. at the county extension office in Waukon to hear taxpayers for or against the estimate of expenditures for the fiscal year beginning January 1, 1969. The budget estimate appears elsewhere in this issue of the Herald.

The amount necessary to be raised by taxation this year is $16,500. Proposed expenditures for 1969 are $18,500 compared to $18,000 in 1967. The unencumbered balance from this year was $2,000 leaying $16,500 to be raised by taxation. Rites Held For Mrs. Ralph Francis Jeanette (Waidley) Francis, 68, of Monona died Tuesday at her home in Monona.

Born in Erie, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late Harvey and Hattie Waidley. The wife of Ralph E. Francis of Monona, she is survived by her son, Roger B. Francis of LaCrescent, Minnesota, nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Services were held at the Sehutte Funeral home in Postville on Friday.

A cremation interment will be held at a later date. Schaffner To Seek J. P. Office Here John T. Schaffner, 24, a teacher in Postville Senior High School, announced this week his candidacy for Post township justice of the peace on the Democratic ticket in Allamakee county.

Schaffner has been active in community affairs serving both on the Postville Fire Department and the Allamakee County Civil Defense Force. He is also a member of the Postville com Little League In Area Competition The July 8 Little League game at Postville was won by Clermont three to two over Postville. The Postville team traveled to Elgin on July 9 and Postville won both games of a doubleheader by scores of 17 to zero and nine to four. In a double neader at Postville on July 10, with Monona, Postville lost the first game, six to three but came back in the second game and shut out Monona, three to zero. Rites Held For Joseph O'Hara Joseph O'Hara died at the Good Samaritan Home in Waukon on Friday morning, July 12.

The board approved a budget of $803,516.00 for General Fund purposes for the year 1968-69 and an amount of $1,268,576.00 for the Schoolhouse Construction Fund. The board set the date for the budget hearing Tuesday, July 30, at 7:30 p. at the Administration Headquarters, Calmar. The board' approved the appointment of Dean Byerly of Monroe, for the position of Farm Implement Mechanic Instructor, for the 1968-69 school year. Mr.

Byerly received his B. S. Degree from Upper Iowa College at Fayette. The board approved the following Adult Education courses, subject to approval by the State Board of Public Instruction, in Farm Implement Mechanics (refresher course); a course in supplemental Nurses Aide training; and a course for expectant par ents. The Area One School officials reported that 206 students have been accepted for the fall quarter beginning in September, 1968, and that 70 students were enrolled for the summer quarter.

Friday Deadline For Sign-Up For Free Vacation Friday noon, July 19, is the deadline for signing registration slips for the Postville merchant's free vacation offer, which is for the week July 28 to August 4 at Parkview Motel on the shore of West Okoboji Lake at Arnold's Park. Word was received this week from the vacation area that the tornado which struck earlier left some tree damage but that everything is back to normal now.

At noon on Friday participating stores will hold a drawing from the tickets they have and pull one winner. The winner's name will then be turned over to the Postville Herald by 5:00 p. m. Friday. The Herald will conduct a drawing at 8:00 Friday night in front of the Herald office from the 33 names- submitted by the merchants to determine who will receive the free vacation.

There is nothing to buy to be eligible for the drawing. Register as often as you wish at the store of any cooperating merchant. Individuals may register as often as they wish. Registration is limited only to adults. The winner will receive a weeks vacation for a family of six at beautiful West Okoboji Lake, staying in Parkview Motel at Arnolds Park.

Rites Held For Tracy Dee Colvin Tracy Dee Colvin, son of Donald and Opal Thyer Colvin, was born on March 7, 1960 in Iowa City.

He was baptized in the Faith United Church in Iowa City. He lived in Iowa City with his parents until they moved to Postville in March of 1966. He attended Sunday Church School and Vacation Bible School in the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville. He attended the Postville Community School and had completed second grade. Tracy was a Little League ball player.

Tracy met with tragic death on Tuesday, July 9, 1968 at about 5:30 p. m. in Postville. He reached the age of eight years, four months, and two days. He is survived by his parents, Mr.

and Mrs. Donald Colvin of Postville; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Gertrude Colvin of Elkader; uncles and aunts, cousins, many other relatives and his friends. Funeral services for Tracy Dee Colvin were held in the Community Presbyterian Church, Postville, on Saturday, July 13, at 10:00 a. with the Rev.

Dick Harberts officiating. Interment was in the Oakland Cemetery, Waukon..
