The eorporation announced it would extend the Trans-Canada Radio network into the Territories by the use of communications It i oca circuits, now being built by Al berta Government Telephones and Canadian National Railways. The circuits, between the Peace River district of Alberta and the i Great Slave Lake area of the Ter ritories, are expected to be ready for use early in 1962. The connection will bring live I network programming to three CBC community stations which to a. gether serve about one-third of the population of the Territories CFYK at Yellowknife, CFHR at Hay River and CBXH at Fort Smith.

The three stations were taken over by the northern serv ice of the CBC 1959. Until now they have relied on tape record ings for the bulk of their CBC features. Topical programs, includ ing news and sports broadcasts, have been relayed from CBC ft. .7 high-powered transmitters at La-combe, Alberta, and Sackville, New Brunswick. When the new circuits are completed, CFYK at Yellowknife will become the headquarters for a regional Northwest Territories network serving unattended relay transmitters at Hay River and Fort Smith.
