'Bgriffs on United States-made cosrtletlcs Imported into Canada have been reduced 10 per cent, from 40 per cent under the old schedule. The duty on jewelry, dryly described as "to adorn the pel son, has been cut 24 per cent from 374 per cent to 35 per cent. Stockings from the United States will come in at a reduced tariff. The rate has been cut from 824 per cent plus a levy of )1 35 a down pairs, to 20 per cent plus $1 a dozen pairs, a reduction of 124 per cent and 36 cents on each dozen pairs.

Duties on United States shoes will be slightly higher at 30 per cent, an Increase of five per cent over the old rate of 25 per cent. Cameron, Swift Current. Bronze spray chrysanthemums formed the pleasing floral motif for the tea table at which Mrs. James Strathdee performed the honors. The Misses Louise and Lola Claes, daughteis of Mrs. F.

J. Claes, formerly of Saskatoon, have been pledged by Alpha Beta Upsilon sorority at the College of Pudget Sound in Tacoma, Waahmgton. Louise is enrolled as a freshman and Lola Is a sophomore. Both attended Nu-tana Collegiate, Lola graduating In i 1937 and Louise In 1938. Also enrolled at the Tacoma school is their sister, Miss Bernadine Claes, a junior, who graduated in 1934 from the Academy of Sion in Saskatoon.

Parties from several outside points are expected In the city today for the dance to be held by the Canadian National Recreation Association at The Bessborough. Entertaining features promise to make this affair one of the popular events of the pre-Christmaa season. Miss Elsie Hansclman, one of the pioneer members of Saskatoons first junior orchestra, was very pleasantly surprised at her home on Thursday evening, when members of the Kiwanls Junior Orchestra gathered to honor her as a bride-elect of this month. A presentation was made, on behalf of the orchestra, by Mr. J.

A. Hagerman, Immediate past president of the Kiwanls Club, who also presented a gift from the club Itself. In a brief speech, Mr. Hagerman made reference to the contribution which Misa Han-selman has made to the junior orchestra movement in Saskatoon, and expressed his regret and that of the orchestra, at the loss of so valued a member. Trotter will have charge of the doll's houses. Asquith United Chuich was the scene of a pietty wedding on Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, when Miss Maiy Alfreda Alcorn, daughter of Mis. W. J. Alcorn and the lale Mr.

W. J. Alcorn, became the bride of Mr. John Andrew Mather, only son of Mr. and Mrs.

T. W. J. Malher of Asquith. The bride enteied the chuich on the arm of her brother, Mr.

H. T. Alcoin of Melville, to the attains of the Wedding Match from Lohen-grln, played by Misa Marie Mather, sister of tho groom. The bi ide was a lovely picture in her wedding gown of white silk spider web lace over taffeta, featuring a floor-length skirt and short bolero jacket with puff sleeves. From a halo of orange blossoms fell a floor-length veil of white silk embroidered net.

She wore elbow length lace mitts and carried a bouquet of rosps and carnations. Her only ornament was a gold locket worn by her giand-mothcr on her wedding day 70 yeais ago. Attending her as bridesmaid was her sister, Miss Adele Alcorn, who woie an attractive ftock of Alice blue taffeta, with doll hHt, lace mitts and shoes In a delicate pink. Her bouquet was pink and white carnations and 'munis. The bridegroom was supported hy Mr.

J. Ross of Saskatoon and the officiating clergyman was the Rev. Mr. Banks. Messis.

C. Mather and T. Peat acted as ushers. During the signing of the register Mr. Albeit Cooke, accompanied by Mias Dorothy Peat, sang "Until.

The Asquith Girl Guides, of which Miss Alcoin was captain, fotnied a guaid of honor as the bride and groom left the church. Following the ceremony a inception was held at the home of the bi Ido's mother. The room was decorated in pink and white while the hiide's table was coveted with a lace cloth and centred with a threo-tieiod wedding cake embedded in pink tulle. Tall pink tapers and bud vases of carnations completed the effect. Assisting with the serving were Mcsdames W.

Reilly and H. Alcorn and Misses M. Cooke, Friend and D. Peat. For travelling the bride chose a rust colored dilndl diess, featuring gold ornaments and brown trimmings.

With this she wore an extremely smart coat of tan and biown English flpece with fox collar. Her accessories were In brown. Mr, Mather attended the University of Saskatchewan here some years ago, graduating In pharmacy and later obtained a position in the City Paik drug stole. The bride was primary teacher at Asquith School. The young couple will reside at Kinistlno.

STIRLING DELDAY BROCK. A pretty wedding took place at the home of Mr. and Mrs. G. Delday of Netherhlll when their daughter, Mary Wallace, became the bride of George Vibjon Stirling of Fall mount, son of the Rev.

Mr. Stirling and Mrs. Stirling, formerly of Netherhlll. The Rev. W.

A. Miller officiated. The bride was given In marriage by her father and her alster, Louise Delday, acted as bridesmaid. The groom was attended by Lloyd Cieed of Netherhlll. After the ceremony a dainty luncheon was served to relatives and friends gathered for the happy event The happy couple will make their home at Fairmount.

LEECH GORHAM WATROUS The home of Mrs. F. Gorham, Fourth Avenue, east, was the scene of a happy event on Thursday afternoon, November 10, when her eldest daughter, Thelma, was united In marriage with Mr. Clinton Leech of Woodnorth, Man. The Rev.
