APRIL 3, 1977 -PAGE SC I Sigh Voter interest Marks Centex School Selections voter interest UP a of Saturday's Central lexas school board elections Voters many cities were faced with ig fields of candidates Eight entered the race at Hillsboro for three places on the school board, and at Hamilton, there were nine hopefuls seeking two vacancies as trustees An 18-year-old Clifton High School senior, Charles Hill, lost his bid for a seat on the board He had promised in his election platform to try to bridge the communications gap between students, parents and school board Hill polled 129 votes against 475 votes received by Tom Parks, and 462 collected by Mrs Donald Gloff Both incumbents. Parks and Mrs Gloff were re-elected to the board On the ballot at Rockdale for a second year running was a referendum on air conditioning the Rockdale High School.

Last year a similar referendum was defeated 518471 A total of 723 votes was cast on the issue in election, but the outcome was not available at press time The Hillsboro race for three places on the school board resulted in wins for Paul Dickson, Newman Lloyd and Robin Crow At Hamilton, Lonnie Jones and Tom Venable beat off competition from seven other challengers for places on the board Here are the results of other school elections over Central Texas; Abbott Five candidates battled it out for three places on Abbott School Board Voters elected three incumbents to fill the vacancies. Davis and Pace will serve a two-year term, and Swor was elected for a one-year term Other candidates were Matt Cast, 51 votes; and William Timm, 46 votes. A total of 131 votes were cast. Richard Relyea, running unopposed for a two-year term as mayor, received 109 votes. Crawford CRAWFORD Frank Golson, incumbent mayor of Crawford, was re-elected as a write-in candidate in the city election Saturday. No one filed for the mayoral position and 76 voters chose Golson to return to office No other write-in candidates came near total.

Incumbent city councilman Larry Meyer was re-elected for his second, two-year term with 99 votes. Write-in candidate Gary Gohlke will fill the other vacant council position by polling 70 votes. Golinda GOL1NDA Little interest was stirred by the city council election here None of the three candidates faced opposition, and all were incumbents Re-elected with 17 votes each were Guderian, Bowers, and Jack Anderson There were no write-in votes. Councilmen were elected to two-year terms. two incumbents were re-elected to fill the two seats on the city council Wesley Sommerfield received 22 votes and Mrs Pearl Felton, 19 votes Both will serve two-year terms Hewitt Marvin Lands won the mayor's race in a city election Saturday bringing the largest voter turnout ever in Hewitt.

Lands, who was mayor pro tem, got 220 votes against Bob votes Lawrence runs a barbecue restaurant in Hewitt. Pearson got 133 votes E. Chapman got 19 votes and James Teele got 91 votes. Mimms, an incumbent, got 152 votes. Lucas got 105 votes. Clyde Fowler got 26 votes and Lewis Nowicki got 82 votes Robi 118011 Hallsbur" HALLSBURG In a very light turnout, Leroy had two vacancies on the city council but only one candidate on the ballot.

Richard Kusler. an incumbent, was re-elected with 42 votes. Miss Ben Evelyn Chester led write-in candidates for the other place with 31 votes Mart MART In a than voter turnout. Dave Henry soundly defeated Bill Boatman for mayor Jim Wiley, the present mayor, was one of two elected to a city council position In the mayoral race, Henry received 460 votes to 400 votes for Boatman. Henry will serve a two-year term.

Henry Breitkreutz and Wiley were elected aldermen William Mitchell, incumbent, and Marilyn Landfried were defeated Breitkreutz received 339 votes, and Wiley. 310 votes. Mitchell collected 266 votes, and Miss Landfried, a McLennan County Community College student, received 88 votes. Breitkreutz, Mitchell and Wiley served on the city council since last July when several council members resigned over a disagreement about the use of a municipal golf course Moody Three incumbents were returned to Moody City Council in an uncontested election. Losers, besides Moran, were A Brown, 90; and Ramsey, who got 108 votes. The winners will serve two-year terms on the city council Receiving write-in votes were Vernon Barbee, Robert Collins, and Garon Salter. 2.

Doyle Hunton was returned to his job with 242 votes. He defeated Dorothy Thompson, who received 234 votes; Bill Robertson, 149; and Billy R. Hall. 146. Elected to the city council were Don Thompson, 632 votes; Robert Gordon, 426, A Staas, 412.

He headed a list of incumbents re-elected Saturday oodwav Elected without opposition were incumbents Jerry Hering, 170 votes; James Wood, 169; A (Alan) Horton, 165 It will be third term and the second for Wood and Horton. J. Muska, who ran unopposed, was re-elected to a two-year term as mayor, lie collected 329 votes. A total of 379 persons voted in the election, a moderate turnout according to voting officials. An incumbent and a newcomer were elected to the two seats on the city council. Aldin C.

Karlik, incumbent, and Larry Charles Lichnovsky each polled 244 votes. Loser Sue Peschaia received 208 votes. Karlik and Lichnovsky will serve twoyear terms. Grocery Loses Mono To Burglar The Phil-A-Sack Grocery Store at 312 Hillsboro was burglarized sometime after 11 p.m. Friday and S230 in cash was taken The vent pipe was taken from the roof of the building.

Police said the main portion of the building was entered through the storeroom. Taken from the two cash registers in the store were $200 in bills and S30 in pennies. Eran Ivlin FRANKLIN (SPL) Franklin voted for trustees in three school board positions but only one was contested The race was in Position 2, where incumbent John Hicks was re-elected with 183 votes His rival, Raymond Jett, polled 43 votes. In Position 1, another incumbent. Tommy Autry, ran unopposed and collected 207 votes Johnny Starkey, incumbent, also was unopposed in Position 3 and received 209 votes.

Fairfield FAIRFIELD (SPL) Incumbent Kitchens, Carl J. Robertson III and Burt Richards won places in a heated election Saturday for the Fairfield School Board. Nine persons ran for three school board places in campaigns heated by controversy over the school's athletic department and coaching staff Kitchens received the most votes, polling 427 Richards received 406 votes and Robertson 335 votes Incumbent Hill Jr got 298 votes. Also running were Billy Dotson, John R. Perona, Johnny Mullen and Dorothy Jean Priest Dotson received 183 votes, Perona 97 votes, Mullen 92 votes and Mrs Priest 65 votes.

Voter turnout was heavy with 565 ballots cast. Hamilton HAMILTON (SPL) Lonnie Jones and Tom Venable won places to the Hamilton School Board Saturday, running in a field of nine candidates. Venable got 153 votes and Jones got 214 Other candidates were Robert Sills, 33; Sharon Benton, 23; Wanda Dalson, 117, Don Haile, 125; Clark Bottlmger, 33, John Shearin, 81; Don Plaeens. 148 Hillsboro HILLSBORO Eight candidates were entered in the race for three places on the Hillsboro School Board Winners were Paul Dickson with 609, Newman Lloyd with 449, and Robin Crow with 441 votes. Other candidates were Jim Riggins, who received 335 votes; Charles Hamilton, 315; Clemmie Smith, 228; Duane Seay, 196; and Tom Ander- son, 165 Hubbard HUBBARD Hubbard school district voters were faced with a choice of six KILLEEN Mrs Sidney Young, with 671 votes, won Place 1 over Bill Willis, 554.

Frederick A (Ted) Wermuth, 138, and El wood Ware 41 Incumbent Armstrong, unopposed, received votes in Place 2 Robert Stubblefield was re elected in Place 3 with 819 votes over Ronny Wells. 363. and Austin Christian, 259 kopperl KOPPERL (SPL) Leroy Riven, Joe Phillips and Mark Norton Jr were elected to three at large positions Saturday in the Kopperl school board election Biven was re-elected to a second term with 100 votes, Phillips and Norton each got 93 votes Also running in the field of six were Charles Newman Jr Bill Areher and Elton Waller Newman got 63 votes. Joe (Alice Jean) Cannon, 278 votes; Seth Wilson, 89, James, 245; and Tom Parker, 34 Milano MILANO (SPL) John Yoakum, Ben Lagrone and Kent Thurman Jr. were voted spots as trustees Saturday on the Milano school board. Charged In Shooting Death HUNTSVILLE. Tex 1 AP 1 A Houston man was charged with capital murder Saturday in the March 24 shooting death of Robert Trent Thomas of Dallas, officials said Police said Stephen Ray Gaddis, 19. was ordered held without bond in the Walker County jail by Justice of the Peace W. Beeler Investigators said Gaddis led them to a secluded spot on FM where body was found covered with pine needles. Police said Thomas, 22, had been shot three times with a small caliber pistol.

Gaddis was arrested near La Place, La Thursday on a traffic violation. Walker County Sheriff Darrell White said Gaddis told police he was hitchhiking along Interstate 45 when Thomas picked him up The sheriff quoted Gaddis as saying he ordered Thomas to pull off on the farm road where he planned to steal the car after tying him up However White said Thomas apparently 'made a run for it" and then was shot Gaddis took the car, changed license plates and drove to Louisiana where he was stopped by a state trooper for speeding.
