Walters, Goldwin Melville March 22, 1922 to December 27, 2008 It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Goldwin "Goldie" Walters at the age of 86 years.

Goldie will be remembered by his loving "Honey" of sixty two years, Marguerite; his daughter Eily (Noel) Chouinard, Grandchildren Jason, Jared (Darlene), Gillian (Matthew) Kirkland, Brea, Quinne, Simone (Alex) Swonek, Rhys and Tyghe; his daughter Shari, grandsons Shawn and Troy; his eldest sister Elizabeth (Betty) Cummine; honorary grandson Scott Cummine, seven great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Goldie was predeceased by his parents Martha and Jacob, two of his sisters Phyllis (Peterson) and Trudie (Lindblad) and one granddaughter Evangeline Midge. Goldie was born in Melville, Saskatchewan in 1922. He attended Melville Public and High School then spent 3 years at University. His first year he was at Luther College in Regina, his second year at the University of Manitoba, and the third year at the University of Saskatchewan.

He then had to postpone his studies but persevered and finished his degree, graduating in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Mathematics. Goldie started his working years at the early age of 12, sweeping floors and cleaning cars at the Walters Garage in Melville. In 1946 he moved to North Battleford. He became choir director at the Four Square Church where he met and married his "Honey" in October of that year. In 1949 his daughter Eily was born and in 1962, Shari joined the family at the age of 3.

In North Battleford Goldie worked for the Walters Motor Company and briefly for Moffatt Motors, then in 1957 they moved to Saskatoon. Here Goldie had a rewarding and long working relationship with SGI (Saskatchewan Government Insurance) as an appraiser until his retirement in the early 1980's. Goldie was very highly respected and considered a very close friend too many of his fellow co-workers. All the body shops new him well and greatly respected his expertise in the estimationappraisal field. It was noted that Goldie always dressed with class and wore his famous fedoras.

After his retirement from SGI he worked part time for Speedy Auto Glass until 1992. Goldie joined the church at North Battleford in 1948 and after his move to Saskatoon became an elder in the Church at Saskatoon in June of 1974. There he directed the young people's gatherings where many benefited from "Uncle Goldie's" love and guidance. He also performed marriage ceremonies for family and friends and provided guidance to many different people from all walks of life. He had a great love of music playing the piano, organ and vibra-harp.

His love also extended to his garden where Goldie spent many happy and fruitful hours. Goldie was a very special person to all of his family members and those that were privileged to be associated in any way with him. He had a positive impact on so many lives that was far more reaching, we are sure, than he ever realized. This year Goldie and Marguerite moved to Fort Saskatchewan to be closer to their daughter, Eily, son-in-law, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Though his time in Fort Saskatchewan was short, every moment was cherished.

He passed away at Dickensfield Extended Care Facility on December 27, 2008. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Global Missions Poor Fund. Box 878. North Battleford, Saskatchewan, S9A 2Z3. Memorial Service in Saskatoon to be held on Saturday, January 24th, 2009 at 1:00 PM at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 812 Preston Ave.
