So it comes as a pleasant surprise to report that "Passions" has merit. Yes, there are too many vapid teenagers. Yes, too much of the cast is getting on the job training.

But the show has enough emerging mysteries to keep viewer interest. What is Whitney's secret? Ivy's? Chad's? Pilar's? You get the picture.
