Black featured at Paris show PARIS (Reuters) Jacques Esterel opened the Paris week of fall and winter collections Monday with a theatrical collection of capes and culottes inspired by Spain and the aficionados of the bull ring. Esterel's eccentric fashions appear more suited to the stage than the street. Full, circular matador capes endorse a long hemline, worn with flared culottes or trousers and the glove-tight black vinyl boots that accompany every model from morning till midnight. He pairs his long capes and trousers that end three inches below the knee with a snug natural waistline and wide leather or fabric belts. Many belts are up to six inches wide.

The full-flared trousers are accompanied by blouse bolero tops or long princess shaped tunics vented at the sides to show the culottes made of a contrasting fabric. The keynote of the Esterel collection is black, which he revives for every hour of the day. Solid black capes, gaucho pants, boots and flat-crowned sombreros make up the street costumes occasionally relieved with a colored blouse or long trailing scarf wrapped around the throat with one end streaming down the back. Late-day clothes continue the culotte skirts, cut in one piece and jump suits with deep decolletes edged in rhinestones. MRS.
