For various reasons several of the students were dropped from the course.

Several more failed to make sufficient progress to warrant advancement to the secondary class beginning Jan. 3 and continuing through April of this year. Those who tried and failed the primary course because of a poorer educational background were offered a chance to repeat the course next fall. The rest of the beginning class made sufficiently good progress to be advanced to the secondary class now in progress in which 63 students were now enrolled. The same teachers, Mrs.

R. Singer and Mrs. P. Bowerman, will continue with the secondary classes. During the present term all students in the present upgrading class will be interviewed twice by representatives of the Canadian Manpower Centre, and the provincial department of education to provide proper guidance for further training and job placement.

Serving with Mr. Wright will be Wiliiam Frost, as vice-president and a northern director of the provincial Chamber of Commerce; and seven new executive members as follows: Jim Regional approved LEASK A bylaw to establish and operate a regional park under the name of Ruxie (Emerald Lake) Regional Park with the village of Leask was approved at the January meeting of the council of the Rural Municipality of Leask. Under the bylaw each party, the village and municipality, would contribute a maximum of $400 per year for five years from Uie date of creation of the park. Each party agreed to designate one or more representatives to conduct preliminary negotiations and the preparation of plans for the park and to prepare a submission to the government for assistance.

Reeve Hector Duncan and Allan H. Madsen were appointed the RM's representatives. A committee consisting of Charles Kasun, W. Duck and W. Konkin was appointed to meet with representatives of the Saskatchewan Power Corporation relative to the municipality's involvement in approving natural gas lines crossing road allowances.

The council adopted a policy that if a farmer wanted his yard plowed, the municipal patrol plow would do the job at $12 per hour with a minimum charge of $3. However, if the farmer failed to pay his account for such service before the end Dept. band consultant at Tisdalc TISDALE The provincial government's band consultant, Herbert Jeffrey, formerly of Sault Ste. Marie, who has been engaged by the department of education for the first three months of this year, conferred with members of the Tisdale School Unit Board here recently. Mr.

Jeffrey's purpose is to assist in the wide-ranging incentive pro gram to promote and encourage school bands. He said he was totally in agreement with the provincial government's goal of a good school band in every school unit. While here, Mr. Jeffrey discussed with the board the procedure of setting up a school music program with a view to developing such a school band. Class credits may be allowed for music work, he said, and the unit could take advantage of government grants of up to 50 per cent for the cost of instruments.

One of the problems of introducing such a program was the availabU i of qualified music instructors and Mr. Jeffrey suggested to the board on how to obtain such personnel. Government grants w'ere also available in this field, he said. Instruction would take place largely in school hours, the consultant said, but some work, such as organized band rehear- sals, would take place in even ings. In order to proceed, Mr.

Jeffrey said the next step would be for the unit board to submit some form of contract offer that would be available to an instructor. Mr. Jeffrey then would assist the board in obtaining the services of such an instructor.
