M61 TWIKTT-TISII KELP VTD. (Maltvrenwlc) It SASKATOON' IT4I fBOlMX, lATt ID AT. MAT 15 SIDE GLANCES By Galbraith FEMALE HEI WANTED 11 DEATHS 500 Canadian, American Scouts al Jamboree () ft Among the 21 boys was one of the hish school students from Malta Hifh School who had been visiting Swift Current on the student-exchange pian. The Canadian boys were interested in the camp stoves brought across the line. They were made by splitting an old hot-water heater in two and attaching legs to the sections.

Another interesting point learned in conversation with the American leaders was that all of the Cub leaders in Malta were women. "This is what I'll look like when I'm grown up does it make you feel awful old?" LLROSE. More than 500 Boy Scouii from Rosctown, Wil- kie, Hughton, Plenty, Eiton, Haielet. Eastend, Wartime, Pen nant, Henchel, Cabri, Kinder ley, White Bear, Sovereign, EI- roe, Sceptre, Wiseton, Shauna von, Swift Current and other point in the Cypres! Scout district which extend from Chap- lin to the Alberta border and outh from the Saskatchewan Fiver to the United Stateiebor der, and 21 Scouti and four lead en from Malta, attended the Scout Jamboree on the holiday weekend at the Saskatchewan Blver Landine bridce. It waa the third largest gathering held by the Cypress dis trict.

T. Kearns, Swift Current, assistant provincial commission er, was in charge of the camp and his assistants were Jim Don Reed and H. Powlcy, Swift Current, and Lou Blay, Eastend. The camp included 52 orange army tents, quartermasters' tent, headquarters' trailer and the fjrecn tents used by the American Scouts. Over $1,500 worth of rations were doled out three times a day to the boys, who had to cook their own meals.

Participating in the official opening ceremmics were Zander, northern field commissioner; F. McPhail, provincial Lone Scout commissioner; Tom Stark, Begins, former provincial commissioner; Harry Bryce, River-hurst, provincial commissioner in charge of training; A. Williams, Regina, field commissioner; and Wally Bruce, Coleville, commissioner. The American boys offered to wap as soon as the cars stopped. The Scoutmasters said that the boys had brought all sorts of things for trading, some of them having had the same experience when they attended the huge Scout Camp at Valley Forge last year.

They were particularly Interested in the Canadian boys' leather belts, as theirs were of a canvas material. Their hats, too, were more of the RCAF type and at least one boy arriving here Monday afternoon was seen to be wearing one, having swapped his "hard" hat with an American boy. Many badges were also exchanged. It was interesting to learn that the American boys did not have to pay their own $4 per boy, since they had earned the money throughout the year by running concessions at local fairs and selling Christmas trees. Tree-planting By Sconls RADISSON.

Scouts from 1st Eadisson and 1st Borden Troup, motored to Borden bridge and were transported by boat across the river to Scout Island, which Is upstream from the bridge. Camp was pitched and the is land explored. A. Nesbitt of the extension branch of the forestry depart ment. Prince Albert, and his wife, along with Scoutmaster John Taylor, arrived with 3.000 spruce trees.

Mr. Nesbitt demonstrated the proper method of planting, and then the Scouts, in pnirs, undertook the big project of placing these trees all over the island. Several interested parents visited the island and helped transport the Scouts home. Discuss Proposal To Build School HAGUE. The possibility of building a new school here was discussed at a recent meeting of the ratepayers and the school board was instructed to investigate the question and to take a vote in the near future.

It was stated that the present school was overcrowded and the basement, which had been used as a classroom for two years was only a temporary setup and had now been condemned by the Department of Education. It was believed the construction of a new school would increase the mill rate. Several elderly residents voiced opposition to the proposal due to the possible increase in taxes.
