Melville's annual musical festival was held in First United Church on April 6 and 7 and included young performers from Lebret, Balcarres and Hudson Bay as well as this district. It was regarded as one of the best held in recent years. Festival adjudicator was Robert Pounder, Moose Jaw.

Top performet of the festival was Miss Myrna Sander, Melville who obtained a mark of 90 playing sight from music chosen by the adjudicator. For her fine showing getting the highest mark of the two day festival Miss Sanders was awarded the Melville Rotary Scholarship of $50. Helen Lumb, Melville, won the Melville Board Trade Scholarship of $25, while Roxy Theatre Scholarship was awarded to Catherine McGee, another Melville performer. AU scholarships ir piano classes. Shirley Kushniryk, Hudson Bay was successful in winning the Kin-ette scholarship for vocal competition.

Twelve year old Helen Stauch St. Gabriels Convent at Lebret was winner of the Kinette scholarship for instrumental music. Miss Stauch is planning to enter the semifinals in the Regina festival May. Hall Committee Elects Officers COLEVILLE. Harry P.

Berg was elected chairman of the local Community Hall Committee at its recent annual meeting. Other officers chosen were: secretary-treasurer, Ross Farris; and directors, Ted Schultz, Andy Severson, Bud Johnston, Gordon Curtis, Jim Tate and Trev The financial statement, presented by Mr. Farris, showed the hall operated at a loss last year. The meeting decided to make an effor to raise funds to repair and redecorate the hall. It was suggested more shares be sold and that dances and other social events be organized to raise money.

Aylsliam Rantams Guests at Dinner AYLSHAM. The local bantam hockey club, winners of 13 of 17 exhibition games played this sea son, was entertained at a turkey supper here recently. Ernie Mackintosh, manager; Joe Ell, treasurer; and H. Weinand referee, spoke briefly and compli-menteerthe boys on their achieve ments and good sportsmanship. Following the program, the club dropped an 8-7 decision to Carrot River in an exhibition game at the rink in which Ken Cuming suffered a facial cut which required several stitches to close.

Gould, Prince Albert superintendent, was guest speaker at a teachers' institute for the local superintendency held in the high school auditorium here recently with 20 high school teachers in attendance. Subjects on the curriculum such as English, social studies, mathe-matics, chemistry and physics, methods of presentaUon, texts and scope of work were discued by Mr. Gould while teachers expressed opinions and asked ques- tions.

A panel discussion featured the afternoon program with M. Bohn and A. Stecyk, Kelvington; Ed. Harmsworth, Rose Valley; V. Gabriel, Quill Lake; and M.

Evan-cio and Douglas Singleton, Wadena, leading discussions. Mrs. Evelyn Russell, Wadena, was chairman when languages were discussed. Teachers agreed on the necessity of teaching sound fundamentals in written English with care given to spelling. All teachers were of the opinion that a concerted effort should be made in checking spelling on all written papers regardless of the subject.
