Coast Guard officials said the boat, owned and operated by Carl Harrington of Coos Bay, returned to dock under its own power and diving crews were sent down to repair openings in planking of the boat just below the waterline. The Coast Guard was called Wednesday to pump water from the 34-foot commercial fishing boat Dorvick after the vessel struck a log just outside the Coos Bay bar. The boat is owned and operated by C.

J. Smallsreed of Crescent City, Coast Guard officials said. Boatswains Mate Chief Dan Sutherland, commanding officer of the lifeboat station, said crews were called out eight times Tuesday for assistance and seven on Wednesday, mostly on routine matters. Henry M. Jack-son of Washington and Gov. George C. Wallace of Alabama, remained unreconciled. But Wallace at least reported backing away from the third party effort his aides had earlier called a growing possibility.

While the McGovern camp tried to consolidate its victory, President Nixons operatives were already in Miami Beach attempting to cash in on anti-McGovern discontent. Interior Secretary Rogers C. B. Morton a member of the Nixon re-election committee said there was a fertile field of dissatisfaction which the GOP could work. A prime tactic Nixon will use against McGovern in the election, Morton said, was to try to disprove McGovern has a magic wand that can cure all the nations problems.

After 18 months, starting irom nowhere, the candidate of discontent had won. His eyes shone bright with emotion. He kissed his sisters and his nieces and shook hands with the men, then went back to writing on a yellow pad with a felt-tip pen the acceptance speech he will deliver tonight. But hostility remained from the old guard. On the convention floor, the die-hard supporters of Hubert H.

Humphrey and Edmund S. Muskie cast their votes for the token candidates or for Sen. Henry M. Jackson of Washington, a party warhorse, rather than go with the obvious winner. Jackson and Alabama Gov George C.

Wallace remained unreconciled to the bitter end to a McGovern candidacy on a liberal platform and so did Wallaces antibusing supporters and Jacksons labor supporters. The votes of Illinois delegates who had' ousted and antagonized Chicago Mayor Richard J. Daley provided McGoverns majority. Illinois swelled his total to 1,728.35 votes, 219 more than a majority showing how close it might have been had he not recovered 151 California delegates taken from him by the party's Credentials Committee in an act he had decried as foul and evil. Other delegates came across after their votes were no longer needed, but many did not make the conciliatory switch, demonstrating that the wounds remained raw.

Mills, chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, could reassure the old guard and the South. He shares few of McGoverns views, but his ties are strong to the partys disenchanted congressional wing. The bar at Rogue River was reportedly rough. The 44-foot lifeboat at Chetco River escorted a total of eight boats at once into the Port of Brookings. They were all disoriented near the mouth of the Winchuck River, the Coast Guard said.

Only one vessel, the Fredro, a commercial fishing boat, remained outside and anchored, but the Coast Guard determined that it was in no immediate danger. Jul Sep Nov Jan 119.50 108.00 106.50 PORTLAND (UPI) Gov. Tom McCall said Wednesday proposed sale of Pacific Northwest wheat to China is tied up in international negotiations.

McCall returned from D.C., and said he was unable to find out where the hangup is on the China Wheat sale proposal. In May, McCall said negotiations with China were under way for at least $50 million in Northwest wheat. Some of the problems outlined to McCall by Agriculture Secretary Earl Butz involved port security, credit and ships. McCall said the Chinese would prefer to deal with a government agency. McCall said he thinks the Pacific Northwest will fill a substantial part of the recent Russian order for $750 million in U.S.

Bring a car with parachutes and the money in it to within 50 yards of the plane on the right side and then wait until we call again, the hijackers said in a message to the Philadelphia control tower. After the plane landed within 100 yards of the main terminal the air pirates transmitted a warning Get us another 727 immediately or something will happen. National Airlines sent two 727s from Miami one of them carrying the $600,000 in ransom. The American Airlines plane was hijacked over north Texas on the Oklahoma City-to-Dallas leg of a cross-country flight from New York to Los Angeles.

The hijacker, described as elderly and nervous, permitted the plane to land at Oklahoma City then forced it into the air. After circling the area for about three hours the plane was notified by the control tower that the ransom was ready and the hijacker permitted it to land again. The money was delivered to a specified place on the runway ard one passenger left the jetliner to pick it up. Then the passengers were released. The hijacker indicated he wished to fly north from Oklahoma City saying he wouldnt need much fuel.

Oregon's Delegation 'Restless' MIAMI BEACH (UPI) Oregons 34 delegates voted for Sen. George McGovern at the Democratic national convention Wednesday night, but there was a critical period shortly before balloting when there was fear of some defections. The delegates were pledged to McGovern by Oregon law because he won the May 23 primary election. But a number of the delegates became restless when they read reports McGovern had softened his stand on Vietnam. It took a one-hour caucus shortly after the fourth convention session began to pacify and unite the delegation.

Then they returned to the floor and listened to 1V4 hours of speeches before the vote. A hoarse-voiced Blaine Whipple, as chairman of the delega tion, announced the Oregon vote 30 minutes after the roll-call began. Surprisingly it was congress-woman Edith Green the one delegate who was coolest to a McGovern candidacy who helped quell the fears of delegates. They thought McGovern had said he would leave residual troop forces in southeast Asia until prisoners of war were released. McGovern aides spent a harried few hours just before Wednesday nights session distributing mimeographed copies of McGoverns position showing it had not changed.

Edith was beautiful, commented State Sen. Betty Roberts, D-Portland. the Oregon floor leader for McGovern. Mrs. Green explained her role this way: They all know he (McGovern) is not my first choice.

But I am convinced my candidate (Jackson) would do everything under God to get us out bf Vietnam. I know McGovern will do the same. Former Sen. Wayne Morse said he, too, was concerned about the supposed McGovern statement, and he. wanted to hear a clarification.

I am satisfied. he commented, after the caucus. Keusink President BROOKINGS Richard Keusink was elected president of the Brookings-Harbor Chamber of Commrece Wednesday. He succeeds Mike Helfrich. Al Ingersol was elected first vice president and Sidney Frank was named second vice president and Allen Finch was elected treasurer.

Mrs. Jerry Holcomb will serve as secretary. The possibility that Southwestern Oregon Community College is considering extension of its district to Curry County was discussed. Finch indicated the tax increase would be about $1.46 per $1,000 assessed valuation and would provide adult education classes within the community, which he felt would be well worth it. Organizers of the match earlier said they would remove one of the television cameras from the, hall if Fischer would play Spassky. Fischer held up the first game for 35 minutes Wednesday because he objected to its being filmed on closed circuit television. He said he would not show up for todays game with world champion Boris Spassky of the Soviet Union unless all the cameras were removed.

Referee Lothar Schmid said Fischer had one hour past the scheduled starting time of 5 p.m. (1 p.m. EDT) to show up or he would forfeit the game to Spassky. He has already lost the first game and a forfeit would put him two full points behind the Russian. Spassky needs only 12 points to retain his title but needs 12 points to win.

It was not immediately clear which camera the organizers agreed to remove. There are four camera positions in the hall two above the stage and two on the floor. The organizers also said they would relocate two of the cameras which Fischer said disturbed him. We dont know for sure Fischer will accept this ar-rangemsnt, said Harry Golom-bek, a member of the central ccmmittee of the International Chess Federation (FIDE). Fred Cramer, a vice president of the U.S.

Chess Federation and acting on behalf of Fischer, said negotiations were underway with Richard C. Stein, a lawyer for Chester Fox the U.S. company which owns the TV and film rights for the match. There is no solution yet, but as long as we talk there is a chance, Cramer said. 111 13 21 22 17 16 11 17 Va 37 54 49 44 27 23.
