1031, by The Arsui.) "Washington, Sept. 12. Renewed efforts to rid the air of alleged medical quackery are under way by the federal radio commission, with its citation of a Chicago station, broadcasting with 5,000 watts power, for possible revocation of license. The commission ordered station WCHI to show cause why its li cense should not be cancelled, after receipt of complaints against broadcasts made by Dr. Percy L.

Clark and Dr. Perley Johnson. Simultaneously, it was divulged that the commission's investigating force is inquiring into similar charges of broadcasts considered inmical to the public health. Already the commission has thrown off the air two broadcasting stations used in medical advertis ing, resulting in the silencing of Dr. John R.

Brinkley of Milford, who specialized in goat gland rejuvenations, and Norman Baker of Muscatine, Iowa, whose freely acknowledged forte was cancer cures, even though he doesn't have a medical degree. Plans New Station. In the case of Dr. Brinkley, word has been received that he soon will be operating on Mexican soil what he describes as the most powerful broadcastnig station in the world, which he hopes will completely blanket the United States. The station, with the call XED, already has begun making tests.

Dr. Brink-ley has confided in friends here. It will have 75,000 watts power, he said, whereas. the maximum power used in the United States is 50,000 watts. Most disturbing, however.

is the report that Dr. Brinkley has selected the mid-channel of 735 kilocycles for his station, located at Villa Acuna, Mexico? just across the Rio Grande from Del Rio, Texas. Says He Has Walked 20,000 Miles Across Country Despite Age Rock Island, at the cross roads of the nation, sheltered and rested another leg-weary hiker yesterday, who arrived from the west less than a day after Clifford Albright, 13-year-old nephew of Police Ser geant Gus Kirsch, reached here from the east. The later arrival was W. H. Chapman, 82 years old, Civil war -veteran with, a beard like that credited to Methusalah, who claims to have tramped 20,000 miles across the United States and Can ada in the last nine years. Mr.

Chapman told Chief of Police Herman Sehnert he was present at the surrender of the conferedate gnral, Robert E. Lee, at Appomat tox court house in 1865, having enlisted in the Union army when merely a boy. while the old man disliked to have his trip interrupted he complained that he was "all in," and wondered if. he could not obtain hospital care. The police sent him to Charles Oswald, county overseer of the poor.

menta of many other stations it would be likely to cause consider able congestion of the ether. With respect of station WCHI Thad H. Brown, general counsel of the commission, urged that agency to set the Chicago station's renewal application for hearing. WCHI's existing license expires Sept. 15 but probably will be continued on temporary basis.

Mr. Brown alleged that Dr. Clark uses the station "for the purpose of attacking the medical profession and particularly, surgical opera tions and the use of vaccines." Dr, Johnson was charged by Mr. Brown with conducting au office for the treatment of all persons "who have not been able to get relief else where," and with claiming that he treats any case outside of leprosy and cancer. In a second case, involving sta tion WBSO at Needham, the commission, on Colonel Brown's recommendation, designated its application for renewal of license for hearing, because of alleged failure to serve the public interest, and a complication In ownership.

The station is licensed to the Babson Statistical Organization, of which Roger W. Babson is head. New Millinery Styles Gladden South Africa Capetown (By the Associated Press. A demand from Europe for ostrich feathers for the latest millinery has made South African ostrich farmers happier than in many years.
