Educationally deprived problem OMAHA (AP)-A former Omaha school board member has called the educationally deprived the state's "greatest educational problem." David Stahmer told the board Monday night that educational problems of minority groups are not caused by them but must be solved by them.

He said students in Omaha's 14 disadvantaged area schools are progressing slower in reading and arithmetic than students elsewhere in the district. The board, however, noted that Stahmer's figures are a year old, that much progress has been made, and that $2 million in federal aid is being spent annually upgrading education in disadvantaged schools. In its reply, the board also said class sizes in the south and east and near north side areas of Omaha are smaller than else where, and that Head Start is producing significant results in terms of student progress. A group of young people, including Barb, went from party to party, but finding them each a never did really "celebrate' the event. "The AFS Chapter there sounds like it's really standing on Its feet now; keep up the good work. "Your Christmas subscription to Life has just made its debut here, and the whole family is able to enjoy It," Barb writes. Barbara and Birgitte attended a lecture on Danish literature, and Barbara has decided that Danish people appreciate good books more than average Americans. Career Day Today in school we had what would correspond to our Career Day in Beatrice High.

Representatives from three Danish universities were present, and there was a group discussion a attending teacher's college. Barbara has been invited on a 11-day plane trip to France during the Easter vacation. "Since I have been invited to come along. can hardly say "no." We'll be flying to Paris with our French teacher and his wife, staying in Paris the whole time. I'm actually sorry I won't be with my family during Easter, but I don't know whether I'll ever have a chance to see Paris or France if I don't snap up this sudden (This extra trip will require about 1100 extra, which.

Barb's parents are forwarding at her request, to the AFS office in New York, with instructions for its use and destination.) "Your matchless Christmas gift, (the tape recorder) is receiving 24 hour usage. Lene plugs it into "pop music" on the radio quite regularly and then plays back an those gems when she has the cnance. Mari anne and I replaced it with our own onjnnai crearons, Needless to say. Lene's face fell in horror when she heard the result of our handiwork!" Love, Barb. Statewide network of grad schools OMAHA (AP)-A plan for a statewide network of "comprehensive schools of continuing education" was proposed Mon day by Dr.

No local tax dollars would be used. The schools would combine programs- traditionally offered in Junior ana community cot-leges, in trade, vocational, technical and adult schools.

The oroeram could be created by existing schools in Lincoln, rimaha. Sidnev. North Platte. Scottsbluff, Norfolk, Hastings and McCook, the umanan saw. The network would be Gov erned by the State Board of Education and local boards would be responsible for operation of the schools through a contract arrangement with the state board.

Areawide advisory committees would be formed for each school Dr. Knutzen said. "Now that I can speak Dan ish, I find that I am really getting to appreciate the wonderful qualities in my friends and relatives here. "You might be encouraged to hear that my last a Danish essay about Danish schools as they compare with American schools, came back with few mistakes, and this one must have been a thousand words!
