mtyim, lull i iM'iiiii Hi "iiKfn '-mm line To Loan on farm, and city property at 4 per cent, per annum. Hostetter Haller. WB AVE ssan Qhkuoteb L.M11MIIUIBIUMI A Campoisn Lie. Everybody knows that lUo Goodland Com. merelui company Is composed of fanners.

The stockholders are all farmer. The board of directors aro farmers. That this company has made thousands of dollars for farmers In an advanced price of grain and a reduced price of farm Implements. They have done business on a close margiii and on small amount of capital. If they can freeze the farmer's company out then see what the other dealers will Jloie Is now paid for wheat at Goodland thun at St.

Francis or Bird City. Why? An election is near and the campaign lie has started on its course. Look out for It. We publish a secret circular that is being sent all over the county. Here it is.

Scrutinize It and read the answer. MOT TO THE FAI1MKI1S' IXTKKE8T8. The Goodland Commercial company, a corporation doing business on money contributed by the farmers of Sherman county, and of which W. A. Uuibargar, Gcoriro Austin, J.

F. Klramcl and W. H. Proctor are the head, Is the cause of the farmers of hiscountj receiving four to five cents less per bushel for their wheat than would otherwise be paid, simply because those men desire to put that extra four or Ave cents In their own pockets. Especially is this true of those fanners who have for sain the better grades of wheat.

The truth of lbin assertion Is shown by the following affidavit. State of Kansah, SlIBIlMAN CoUNTV. Daniel Kent, being dulv sworn on my -oath, stute that I reside In Queen City, Schuyler county, Missouri. That for several days last past I have been buying wheat and grain in tho city of Good-land, Kas.tHlng the scales of tho Goodlaud Commercial company. That when said company found I was prepared to, and was paying from one to live cents more per bushel for grain than they (tho said company) desired to pay, they positively and absolutely refused me the use of their scales, although I ofered them anv reiionablq demands.

That by said refusal by the said Commercial company, 1 have been compelled to stop buying erain at Goodland, and that the farmers of Sherman county were thus deprived of my competition In buvlng grain. Signed, Danik'l Kknt. Subscribed and sworn to before me this 3rd day of October, 1S9S. Notary Public. Sly commission expires August 6, 1W11).

Thin affidavit explains Itself, and comment la unneccessary, but it may bo well to remember that the names of the managers of the Commercial company will appear on the populist ticket this fall, except the name of G. H. Austin. As to who Is Mr. Kent, wo refer by consent to J.

Wnrriner, a merchant tailor in Goodland, also to J. S. Khodes, a reputable citizen of Goodlaud. Tt Is claimed by tho Commercial company that Mr. Kent was compelled to leave here because the railroad refused to furnish him with cars.

ISut on Inquiry at the station, tho agent states positively that no one leeii refused cars when It was possible to furnish them. And this is a falso and sillv excuse, for there is law enough In Kansas to compel the railroad to furnish cars in case they attempt to refuse. Mr. Austin says that there are several false statements in this circular. That Mr.

Kent was allowed the use of the Goodland Commercial company scales until the company concluded to refuse further use by him, and for this reason. Hj would buy the grades of wheat, but would not buy tho poorer grades, leaving them to purchase the cull of the market. The denial of the use of the scales did not hinder his buying as thero were other scales In town that, he could use. Ho was not situated as though these were tho only scales in town. Mr.

Austin further denies that the com pany had ever brought any Influence to bear to prevent his buying grain, or securlngcars for shipment of the same. The whole scheme is a lot of campaign buncomb. It is ene of the frisky, festive, campaign lies to try and defeat the people's party ticket. Reports are being persistently circulated that more Is being paid for wheat at Burlington, and at Edson than at Good-land. We do not bellevo this.

There can be no correct data on tho subject without a comparison of grades. To talk price with out grade Is mere nousenso. We know that mere Is being paid at Goodland than at St. Francis or Bird City for the same grade of wheat. The farmers of this county should not hastily decide as to these reports.

Wait and ee, and if need be investigate. Do not strike a blow at the farmer's company blindly. Wait until the political sky clears up and look with suspicion on any such at tack at this particular time. They arc making desperate effort to defeat the people' party ticket and this secret circular should be regarded with suspicion. MB.

AUSTIN'S 8TATRMENT. We call the attention of the people of Herman county to the republican rot con tamed in the above circular. The first lie contained In this circular Is the assertion that this company It causing the farmer to obtain from four to five cents less for wheat. Lie second Is that we desire to put this money In our own pockets. Lie third Is that Mr.

Kent paid from one to five cents more for grain than did the Commercial company, but Mr. Kent simply picked out the best groin coming to market and refuted to buy the poorer grade at any price, compelling yoor home dealers who have their means Invested In scales, office and elevator and upon- which they have to py their txn for the npport of th county, to bny the poorer rrad-s of rjaln. The fourth lie is the asccrtion that Mr. Kent was compelled to stop buying gralu because we refused to him the use of our scales, when the fact is thero are six set of scales In Goodland ho-sides those scales owned bv our company, over which we have no authority. The fifth He is that we claimed tho railroad company refused to furnish him cars.

We mado no such assertion and believe that Mr. Kent has a fair a show to get cars as anyone else. We further beiieve this circular was hatched by a ring of politicians for political effect, who know right down in their hearts that thev are more corrupt than Satan himself. G. 11.

St, Francis Defender. Debt. Oh what a hydra-headed monster it is. What a prosperous and happy nation this would be If all her people were free. I say free, for what slave's chains wore ever mere gallluir than the ones of debt.

Not like the convict's chuins.whlch ilways are the same heft, but debt each day and hour keeps adding a littlo on until the load of chains get unbearable. Some say there Is no way out of this awful difficulty. Is there not? Would not the half of eauh man's tax alone make him and his family more com fortable and happy? The tax that la being paid on our great national debt Is being paid by every Individ ual owning anything taxable. Is not this "ger-rate and try able to pay her debts? She would If she could. Is not'a person despisable, who try to tear down bis own government, yet bow much more so Is one who will deliberately lit In the halls of congress and the legislature and help make laws that will place the people in the position they now occupy, owners of only a 4x15 pie se of land, but they don't know where It Is, and don't Have to pay taxes on It, but their friends will after they take posesslon.
