Jean was born in Revelstoke on March 13, 1929. As a young girl she spent much of her life in Kamloops, where she enjoyed everything country life had to offer. In 1949 she married Angus MacDonald. They would eventually settle in Vancouver. While Angus was establishing a successful business as a mining contractor and developer, Jean successfully raised their family.

Although she worked full time for a number of years, her children, David and Karen, always came first. Jean shared many great times with family and friends: Christmas celebrations in Hawaii, family holidays at their home in Palm Springs, fishing trips in Campbell River, her Canucks' season tickets; many trips to Hastings Park and her regular junkets to Reno. Unfortunately Jean was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in the 1960's. Over the past 40 years she managed this condition with grace and dignity. She never complained, she was very brave.

For the past 10 years, Jean was a resident of Crescent Gardens in White Rock. No resident was more involved. No one participated in more games and activities. Her love of games extended to hockey and baseball. She rarely missed a Canucks or a Blue Jays game.

She was a very serious fan. The family would like to thank the staff at Crescent Gardens and in particular Val Atchison, who organizes recreational activities for the residents. She provided Jean with a greater enthusiasm for life almost every single day. Just before Christmas Jean fell victim to new health problems and was admitted to Peace Arch Hospital. Over her last three weeks, she fought a very difficult battle with great strength.

She never complained, she was very brave. The family would like to thank the staff at Peace Arch Hospital and in particular the doctors and nurses at the Hospice. Jean's daughter Karen was her principal caregiver over the past 10 years. Jean could not have known that this was a very rewarding experience for Karen. "She taught me the true meaning of love, loyalty and compassion this was a gift from my mother.

My wish is that she is now in a place where this gift is Jean was predeceased by her parents Herb and Zella, her sisters Arlene and Velma and brother Jack. She is survived by her husband Angus, daughter Karen, son-in-law Jack, son David, future daughter-in-law Karen and grand children Kerry and Cruiz. A celebration of Jean life will be held at a later date. For those who desire, donations may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada or the BC Cancer Foundation.
