FONTANA Kaiser Steel employes at the Fontana steel plant will receive a three cents an hour cost-of-living increase beginning Jan. 6, it was announced yesterday by company officials. The increase will apply to some 6,700 hourly employes at the plant and will amount to approximately $210,000 for the first six months of 1957 or a total of $420,000 for the year if the Consumer Price Index remains the same during the year. The increase is based on terms of the contract signed by the company and the United Steelworkers of America last August. The contract calls for cost-of-living adjustments to be made each January and July, in accordance with changes in the Consumer Price Index of the Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S.

Department of Labor. Consumer Price Index figures used are for 15 and May 15 of each year. The index rose to a high of 117.8 as of Nov. 15, an increase of 1.3 over the 116.5 base agreed to in the contract, and called for a 3 cents an cost-of-living adjustment. New Appointment For Kaiser Co.
