POCLE'S High Wind Ard High Score Provide Some Fun For Native On Sunday Hoy Poole's red headed metropolitan insuniH'tos, such being the nom de plume for ball players incognito, defeated the llemet ball toysers in the Iiemet section yesterday by a score of 15 to 10 in what was scheduled to be a ball game. It was not a ball game, but was an exhibition of ZeppQlinexud aerial st mils, said exhibition being due to pranks of the wind. Time and again fly halls that should have been easily captured won't for singles and two-baggers when the wind suddenly veered the ball at some distant angle making it impossible for the fielders I rt close their talons on the horsehide. lx-als' Serond Victory Hansen pitched the red heads to victory, while he was supported by "Crooked Finger" llaher in excellent fashion, although it is said that Ha-ber sometimes gets his fingers crossed when the crooked finger won't behave.

However, the support offered by Poole, Dorsch, Schmidt, Smith, Hewins, Uoagan and Wagner was just a little better than that of the Hemet guards, hence victory for a second time conies to San Bernar- dino. This Is Xo Xature Fake Jimmy Clabby, the pugilist, had a toothache, and was hearted for the dentist's to have it extracted.

On the way he met "Germany" Selmefer, the baseball comedian. When Clabby explained his hurry, Si haefer agreed to accompany him to the tooth parlor and to try to cheer up Clabby while the molar was being released from Clabby's jaw with a lot of vicious looking instruments while Schaefer began unlimbering some of his stuff. Every joke that Schaefer cracked brought a gale of laughter from Clabby. It seemed that Clabby laughed more at Sehaefer's jokes than anyone else ever had laughted before. And he laughed despite the fact that he was supposed to be in agony.

Schaefer, encouraged by Clabby's laughing appreciation, unlimbered all the best jokes he knew. He worked himself Into a state of' bordering on collapse, so as to keep Clabby amused and thus make him forget his pain. Then He Wakes l'p Finally when the dentist laid the extracted tooth on the little surgical table, Clabby sat. up, rubbed his eyes, and looked at Schaefer in a quizzicil way. "Have you been here all the time, Schaef?" asked Clabby.

"Me here all theitlme?" repeated Schaefer, a bit puzzled. Trying to kid me, Jim? Why, sure I've been here the time. Didn't you hear those jokes of mine?" "Jokes? No, I didn't hear any. You know, Schaef that I was under the influence of gas." And the gas was the kind known as "laughing gas." They went to the front because their country called but they didn't forget their love for boxing.

Many of the recent letters from the front, written by the English soldiers, tell of boxing bouts staged among the English regiments during lulls in the death grapple of the Germans and the allied armies.
