i i jjmjjuss THE SANTA CRUZ BEACH. MISCELLANEOUS. BLANCHE BKANCIFORTE. Santa Cra JlaHg SnitintI i 8 8, 1881 ZAC2A EKTOS. Henry Wigger has sold his Ben Lomond vineyard to a company of Germans, who propose to set the en.

tire tract of land, 186 acres, as far as practicable, out to vines. They propose to erect buildings and engage extensively in the manufacture of wlue. This company will purchase more vineyard land In the neighborhood, when It can be purchased at satisfactory figures. Mr. W.

will probably go to Salt Lake, and If any one has a bill against him it can be presented to C. Hoffmann. The keeper of ''No. 10, Front street," was convicted in Justice Co-nant's Court, Friday, for the keeping of a house of ill fame. The jury was out the whole afternoon before coming to a verdict.

Berkeley Advocate. When one of the East Indian potentates had an Englishman executed because he told that monarch that water sometimes congealed In England, so hard that it would bear an ox, he acted on sound principles from his point of view. We are led to make this reference from the fact that things which seemed Wonderful two decades ago are now accepted as commonplace, and are easily accounted for; and processes which are now scouted, and deemed chimerical and Impossible will, In another score of years, be accepted by the multitude. Not many years ago the art of healing by what is termed animal magnetism, or the laying on of hands, was thought to be revived and was proclaimed with a degree of assurance which would not "down" at the scoffs and cries of "impostors" from the Incredulous conservatives the respectable representatives of common sense. But time works wondrous changes.

Now magnetism as a healing art Is actually forcing its way to the front, and even scientists acknowledge its potency. What we now write is not a puff; we claim to have facts to sustain us in what we say. Drs. Darrin, the Magnetic Physiclnns, No. 113 Stockton street, near Market, San Francisco, have established a solid reputation as veritable- healera by this magnetic power.

They give us numerous testimonials from persons well known in this vicinity, whose statements over their own signatures will not be discredited. The epithets, "Quack," "Mountebanks," "Fraud," and the liko, go for naught in the stern presence of stubborn facts. We are not so foolhardy as to affirm that these gentlemen can cure every case, or every disease, but when such emphatic testimony as the following is given by one of our own most worthy citizens, our better judgment dictates that we ought to wait before we scoff, and test before we condemn. As a proof of Dr. Darrin's wonderful healing power, we give the case of the daughter of W.

S. Dibble, one of our townsmen, who after an attack of membranous croup, became totally deaf, to the great grief of her parents. They consulted the ablest specialists who said they could afford her no relief. Mr. Dibble heard of the wonderful cures made by Dr.

Darrin, the magnetic healer, and placed his daughter in the doctor's hands. After three treatments, which made her quite sleepy, and bad the effect of making her perspire quite freely, she immediately recovered her hearing. This was in 1872, and her parents and frionds have good reason, as time is the best test, to regard it as permanent. Another case in point is that of Mrs. Dibble, who has suffered from paralysis for a number of years.

Dr. Darrin is treating her, and already she notices a marked improvement. For some time she could not raise hor hand to her head; now she can do it easily. We have seen numerous testimoni Sparks that Baffle Science -Two Graceful 8 wimmera -Sacramento's Fa-' TOrtta Color. There is some Btrangn fascination that draws one to the beach in spite of one's self.

No matter how strong the will power may be that wants you to ramble about the lovely suburbs of this city and see what other beauties uature has in store, yet when the hands of your watch point at 10:30 o'clock, your footsteps will paint In the direction of the beach, seemingly drawn by some inexplicable magnetic attraction. Were I a giddy man I would ascribe the magnetism to a pair of black or brown eyes, of which there are any number, sending forth streaks of love light that scientists and philosophers have vainly endeavored to dissect, and they themselves have been caught up by a spark from one of those weapons which female loveliness is armed with and have been stranded and thrown OX THE SHORES Of hopeless despair, and have become companions to those of less profound knowledge in regard to this whirlpool of sparks, which has thus far baffled science and everything else that endeavored to solve the problem. I never tire of the bay dotted with white-winged ships, sparsely, dressed bathers. I love to lie on the sand and have the sea breezes sweep over me. The sun, which paints my face with a lovely hue of tan, seems so different on the beach than anywhere else.

All these combined form the attraction which makes me one of the many who visit the beach every day. During the last few mornings I have noticed an Increase In the number of "Jumbos" In the surf. There has been a scarcity of them for three or four weeks. Probably I was unable to recognize them, owing to the salt water having the effect of reducing them to a fashionable thinness. I know a lady who has had to have four bathing suits this season she has grown so lean.

Do you know that the wearing of bangs causes hair to grow on the forehead? Well, the latest medical authorities say that salt water removes this superfluous hair and leaves the forehead as clean as marble. Girls, paste this In your novels or on your sunshades and remember it, although you won't believe me. There is a great Increase of FLAM I NO RED SUITS In the water. The colors are much brighter than those worn in June. Red is a favorite Sacramento color, while Stockton nails grey to Its mast.

Santa Cruz and Jose lake every shade in the rainbow; tJje more they can put on a suit the better they like it. The lady in black has the prettiest bathing suit, and she swims so gracefully too, that it makes her the envy of those who can't. I see she Is beginning to dive, and she soon will head the list of those who learned before she did. Her "chum," as it seoms to us strangers, is a good swimmer, but she for the last ten mornings has not gone in. Maud says they are well-known San Francisco belles.
