EDITORIALS SANTA CRUZ NEWS FEATURES SCHOOL STRIKES DENOUNCED While he did not specifically mention the recent strikes in the public schools of Alameda and Fresno, State Superintendent of Schools Vierling Kersey plainly meant those incidents when in a statement Saturday he condemned student strikes and severely criticized involved in them. Referring to the participation of adults in such strikes as revealing "pettiness" and "childishness," Super ntendent Kersey remarked that the co-operation of "adult groups" is needed in handling the problems of public education. He went on: Public education cannot countenance the method of such direct action as a means of settling or treating problems of the schools. Good teaching always opposes direct action, and the disrespect of using proper channels of settlement in connection with all problems. The supremacy of emotionalism over deliberation and due processes must be disapproved.
