Jas, Mortimer Leaves for 'Frisco This Afternoon Special Awards This Morning James Mortimer, of New York, finished judging at the Victoria Kennel Club's annual show this afternoon shortly after 1 o'clock, and he leaves on the Seattle boat for San Francisco, having consented to act as judge at the bench show there. Before leaving the scene of the Victoria show he was showered with congratulations from the officials of the local kennel club, who stated that they were more than delighted with the way In which he had handled affairs. Mr.

Mortimer, in return, stated that it had rarely been his pleasure to officiate at a show in which all arrangements were carried out to such perfection, and he handed a bouquet of unusually acceptable form to the local fanciers, when he remarked that the exhibits shown in Victoria would do credit to any show held throughout America. He was particularly pleased with the terriers, of which he said there was as fine a collection as he had ever seen. Speaking about Harry Ella's champion Irish setter Prince, Mr. Mortimer stated that it had one noticeable fault, in his opinion, that being its bulk. The finest Irish setter he had ever seen had been shown at a Seattle dog show years ago.

He was pleased with Kll-arney Roy, an Irish setter owned by Mrs. Green, of James Bay, which he thought lacked only a little in the head to make it a champion. James Angus, the judge asserted, was the most able ring steward that had ever assisted him in his work. The special awards were made this morning, one of the most important of which was the handsome cup for any brace of dogs of the same breed, which went to Champion Arbutus Swallow and Arbutus Roy, English setters, of Hickford and Withers' kennels. W.

D. Bruce, of Vancouver, as usual, was very successful with his fox terriers, while J. J. Jackson and P. J.

MMISSiON CLAIM ON ROCKLAND PROPERTY Capt. Locke Defendant in Suit for $600 on Sale of House to Perry Finch The sale of a Rockland avenue house and lot to tivo parlies was Hie cause of the appearance as defendant to a commission claim of Capt. W. L. Locke, of the C.

P. R. steamer Princess Beatrice, in the County Court this morning, when he was sued by Stuart ft Reeves, real estate agents, for the sum of $600. Stuart Reeves received instructions to sell the propel ty for $12,000 nett for Capt. Locke, and Mr.

Stuart told the vendor he would offer it to Perry An arrangement was made for Mr. Finch to meet Captain Locke at the ofthv of Stuart Reeves to go and see the interior of the house, but Mr. Finch went alone and arrived at the agent's offices after Capt. Locke had gone. Before leaving on his trip north Capt.

Locke told Stuart Reeves to sell and to deal with his son if the sale was made. Two hours afterwards Mr. Finch called and paid a deposit. The agents wired Capt. Locke at Vancouver that the property was sold, and applied to his son for certain papers connected with the property that were required in making the transfer to Mr.

Finch. Two days later Capt. Locke's -son wired him that nothing had been done and then sold the property to another buyer. When Capt. Locke returned from his trip he recognized the sale in recognize the work of Stuart Reeves.

The son claimed that no sale had been made and so he sold under instructions from his father. Judgment was reserved. A. Courtenay appeared for the plaintiff, and J. P.

Mann for the defendant. OBITUARY RECORD The funeral of the late Mrs. Eliza Dresser, widow of the late A. W. Dresser (not of H.

Liberals' Organization Meeting. A representative meeting of Liberals from the various wards for the purposes of organization was held last evening at the central headquarters.

Great enthusiasm was manifested, and a large number volunteered for committee work, showing greater interest on behalf of the progressive candidates than at any time In the history of provincial elections since party politics became the rule. The committee have received many assurances of support from Labor men and from Indepen dent Conservatives, who have decided to enter into the fight with sincerity and disinterestedness, and with the resolution that two candidates will be seated in opposition to the ministers when the House reassembles. Committees for each ward were named, and a full and etllcient organization will operate in each ward. Majestic Theatre. A powerful bio-graph drama entitled "For His Son," is being shown at the Majestic to-day and to-morrow.

It is a very significant picture, depicting the evils of a new soft drink containing cocaine. It has been placed on the market by a doctor and its tremendous success as a "bracer" has made him rich. This doctor had brought up his son badly and he was a mere spender. The doctor put out the "soft" drink, knowing that he was preying on people's souls, but he needed the money for his precious son. The picture powerfully suggests the widening grip of the demon cocaine as the bottles of his soft drink multiply and the people begin to get the habit.

The boy sets the habit, becomes a wreck and dies, and then the old man has no son, but he Is still rich. "The Sick Man from the East" is a western drama that makes one feel the spirited situations with which it is infused. "The Two Spies" is a novel and romantic drama of the civil "Bill's Bills" is a good comedy showing a man blessed with plenty of money and a wife that knows how to spend it.
