Army Reservists and National Guardsmen assigned to local units were anxiously awaiting clarification today on how they win be affected by of Defense Robert McNamara's historic plan for realignment of the Army reserve. A weekend press release indicated that the two Southern Oalifomia reserve divisions Reserve's 63rd Infantry and the National Guard's 40th Armored have been marked for "disbandment" under the realignment. The 63rd includes Hie 5fch Tank Battalion headquartered in San Bernardino and the 40th mcludes the 2nd Mechanized Infantry Battalion, also headquartered in San Bernardino. A spokesman at the Army Reserve headquarters said today that no official word has been receive3 regarding the realignment.

"We only iniow what we've read in the newspaper," he stated. The 5th Tank Battalion, commanded by Lt. Col. Norman H. Young, has a Headquarters unit in San Bernardino and three "line" companies in El Monte.

Of the battalion's total strength Local guard, reserves uncertain of status ai 300 men, about 170 drill in San Beroaidino. Nearly all Redlands area National Guardsmen are assigned to units of the 2nd Mechanized Infantry Battalion, commanded by Lt. Col. Charles E. Thomas.

The battalion has a strength of about 400 officers and enlisted men. Company is headquartered at Redlands in the Texas street armory. The unit currently has a strength of 100 men. Two other companies are in San Ber- nardmo and a fourth is in Banning. Jess Thompson dies of heart attack in car Jess Porter Thompson, 54, ofi Redlands, died Saturday follow ing an apparent heart aittack at the wheel of his car in the downtown area. Police said Mr. Thompson halted his auto at Redlands boulevard and Orange street about 2:20 p.m. after suffering the attack. He was takrai by Redlands Ambulance to Community Hospital where he was p(ranounced dead on arrival.

A native of Wheatland, Mr. Thompson, 54, resided in in Redlands since 1927. His address was 1704 Clay street. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Louise E.

Thompson of Redlands; a stepson, Jim Rice of Redlands; a step-daughter, Mrs. Joan Graham of Bloomington; three sisters; Mrs. Rosa Romesburg of Wheatland, Mrs. Ida Marsh of Fort Scott, Kansas, and Mrs. Fay Black- weU of Arcadia, Kansas.

Saur, 720 West Olive avenue, has been in Lmda Valley Rest Home at Loma Linda for the past few weks. Mrs. Will Fowler, 123 E. Fern avenue, quietly celebrated an anniversary years of residence in Redlands. She came here with her parents from Santa Rosa in 1887.

She is now 92 years old but still maintains her own home. The former Elizabeth Shorey, she is the widow of the late WiU Fowler, one-time Redlands mayor and county supervisor. Leon Mobtirg, assistant professor of art at the University of Redlands, is exhibiting his ceramics in a show from Dec. 13 to Jan. 6 at the Burton Jay Gallery in Los Angeles.

This is the first time in recent years that a member of the University faculty has been represented in a show in a Los Angeles gallery. Mr. and Mrs. John Lovely, 1475 Pacific street, attended a dinner Saturday evenmg at Knott's Berry Farm at which time their son, John Murray Lovely, was initiated into Epsilon Pi Tau, national and inter national honorary fraternity. Second Lieutenant Richard B. Bennett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur B. Bennett of 325 Felisa Court, has completed his solo flight in the T-33 jet trainer as a U.

S. Air Force pilot trainee at Laughlin AFB, Tex. Lieutenant Bennett wiU receive silver pilot wings upon completion of the year-long Air Training Command flying program. Smiley, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Smiley of 1227 Washington street, participated Dec. 9-12 in a large scale fleet training operation in the West- em PaciHc called "Operaticm Tall Back" while serving aboard the destroyer US Hollister.

The exercise, under the direction of the Commander of Seventh Fleet in the Far East, was designed to increase the readiness of seventh Fleet units in iStrike, 'anti aircraft and anti-submarine warfare. 'Redlands I'fext Five Exits" signs will be posted on the Bed- lands Freeway at both ends of town this week, the state Division of Highways amiounced today. State highway crews Friday removed the two signs that will be relettered to the new wording. The old signs, one located west of Alabama street and the other east of Ford street, until now have read, "Redlands Right Lane." C. V.

Representatives of the Food Employers Council and the AFL- CIO Meat Cutters Union conducted a marthon hour session which began Sunday afternoon and broke up at 3:30 a.m. today.

A spokesman for the FEC said despite the strike-lockout "meat is moving and moving rapidly." "It is being cut, packaged, wrapped and weighed at the packing houses," said the spokesman. Kane said the "Redlands Next Five Exits" signs will be put into place early this week. These sign changes are being made at this time because the corrections can in the Division of Highway's local maintenance shop. Also to be changed in' the near future is the "Redlands sign at the Tennessee street off- ramp. This directional sign will be reworded to say "Tennessee street" which is in line with other off-ramp signs which designate the Redlands streets they empty traffic on to.

Kane explained that this particular sign requires more work than the others and cannot be changed as promptly. Water board incumbents file papers It appeared likely today that the Feb. 2 election of four di rectors of the San JBemardino VaUey Water Conservation District will be cancelled because only the incumbents have filed nominating papers. The deadline for submitting nominating petitions was 5 p.m. today.

By noon, only Roscoe Crim, incumbent for Division Gordon Ci-am, incumbent in Division Bob Paine incumbent in Division 5 and E. Dana Brooks incumbent in Division 6, had filed their nominations. If no other nominations are received, the Water Conserva tion District's board of directors will meet tomorrow to cancel the election and to appoint the unopposed incumbents to four year terms. 14, 1964 5 Chester Jordan suffers fatal attack in boat Funeral services will be held Wednesday for Chester A. Jordan, a longtime resident of Redlands, who-apparently suffered a fatal heart attack Saturday while boating on the Salton Sea. Imperial County sheriff's deputies said Mr. Jordan was taken to Pioneer Hospital in Brawley, where he died. An autopsy was scheduled today to verify the cause of death.

Mr. Jordan, a native of Arizona, resided at 137 Hastings. He lived in Redlands for 35 years and was 74 at the time of his death. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Arizona and the Carpenter's Union ol San Bernardino. Survivors are his wife, Mrs.

Pauline Jordan of Redlands; one son, Darrell C. Jordan ol Redlands; one brother, Walter E. Jordan of Arizona, and three sisters. Miss Stella M. Jordan, Mrs.
