Sue was born November 22, 1918 in New Westminster and she lived in Vancouver, Indianapolis, Indiana, Colorado Springs, CO and Burnaby before moving to Boise. Preceded in death by her husband, Sandy A. Bevis, past President of the International Typographical Union; parents Ethel and Spurdon Manzer and brothers Andy, Mel and Ben. She is survived by Don (Mary Kay), Denver, CO and Jim (Dianne), Boise, ID; brother Bill; sister Pat (Thorne) and granddaughters Andrea Lyn Karp and Amy Nicole Bevis and great-grandson Tristan and by grandsons Tyler, Conner and Philip Bevis.

Predeceased by his wife Kay in 1995. He is survived by his wife Betty of 37 years, sons Rick (Leslie) and Ron (Danielle), daughter Trina (Gary), grandchildren Stephanie, Michelle, Sydney, Dale (Rhiannon), Kevin and greatgrandson Jerry.

Also survived by his sisters Olive and Jeannette and brother Roy. In honour of his wishes there will be no formal ceremony, only a joyous party celebrating life. ARMSTRONG Della Joyce, passed away peacefully at the age of 62, on May 1, 2002, after a brief but brave struggle with cancer. She is survived by her sister Sandra Asfar (Jamal); her daughter, Lisa Novak (Michael); her son Neil Armstrong (Denise) and grandchildren Michaela, Sarah and Quinn. She will also be greatly missed by her friends and coworkers at Foster House and Wellington House.

Beverley was predeceased by her husband Ted; brother Frank; and sister Stella. She is survived by her loving family, son Doug (Ziggy); brothers Stanley (Jeanne), Joe, Ralph (Lundina) and Ted (Louise); sisters Nellie and Helen (Russell); also many nieces and nephews. Beverley was an extremely kind hearted woman who always thought of others before herself and dedicated her life to her family.

Born February 14, 1926, passed away May 4, 2002 in Powell River. Predeceased by his daughter Kerry, his parents and 5 siblings. A much loved and loving husband, father and grandpa, he is survived by his wife and best friend, Pauline, son Paul (Debbie), daughter Lise (Kari) and grandchildren Tara and Thais Galinski, Alex Carter and Erika and Aaron Cripps and his sister Ida Prochnau. Hank was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals for 25 years, a long time member of the Canadian Legion, a graduate of UBC and a teacher at Max Cameron for 16 years. We have lost a kind, gentle and most unselfish man who always cared for others before himself.

He will be sorely missed. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 11, 2002 at Stubberfields Funeral Home in Powell River. If desired, donations may be sent to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. -083195 Deaths GOAD Vernon Harriss.

Peacefully in his 87th year on Thursday, May 2nd, 2002, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Vancouver, BC after several years of loving home care by his beloved wife Florence MacDonald (nee MacKillop). Harriss was born in Montreal and his family moved to Toronto. He considered his school experience at Ridley College in St. Catherines Ontario a major influence in his life.

He was an excellent athlete, accomplished in boxing, rugby and high hurdles, and became a company commander in the Cadet corps. That experience influenced his choice of the Toronto Scottish Regiment and it was as a Captain that he served overseas in WWII, 1939-1945, first in the Canadian Military Police in London, and then with distinction in Europe. When he returned to Canada, he obtained a Social Work degree from the University of Toronto. He did community case work in Vernon, BC until 1953 when he joined the New Haven Borstal Correctional Unit in Burnaby, BC. He became its Director in 1964 and remained a key factor in the success of the school until his retirement in 1975.

His marriage to Florence nearly 40 years ago added a large and loving Nova Scotia family to his life. His retirement was spent with friends and family, and included an active role in the Bell Ringers group at Brock House. He was predeceased by his first wife, Josephine Walton (Alec). He is survived by daughter, Dr. Virginia Josephine Baldwin of West Vancouver, son Christopher James (Liliana) of Penticton, sister Margaret Peck (Ralph) of Toronto, nieces and nephews Johnathan, Diane, Stephen and Megan of Ontario, and many cousins in Vancouver, Toronto, Los Angeles, and Copenhagen.

He later worked as an Electrician with the DND, retiring after 39 years. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Malvina; daughter Connie Pelke; sons Bob and Ken; daughters-in-law, Glenna and Dianne and son-in-law, Ray; his grandchildren Candice, Matthew, Nathan, Carson, Anthony and Nicole. Bill is the eldest of seven children, Mary Dryer (Victoria), Jim Hollier (predeceased), Rose Adams (predeceased), Elsie Chipchase (Edmonton), Ed Hollier (Halifax) and Harry Hollier (Kelowna). He was a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be sadly missed.

After retirement Bill and Malvina spent many enjoyable times curling and travelling the country in their RV. Bill was an avid fisherman and golfer, also spending time at his cousin Bill's farm in Northern Alberta helping to plant and harvest the crops. -026560 Birk was born June 4, 1938 in Flin Flon, Manitoba, lived many years in the lower mainland, and chose to spend his remaining eight years in Honeymoon Bay, where he passed away peacefully in his home, May 1, 2002. He was adored by many and will especially be missed by his wife Sylvia, daughters Kim (Peter), Kelly (John), Carrie and son Birk (Sam). Papa also had a remarkable relationship with his mainland grandchildren Jessica, Johnathan and Eric, with whom he was able to bond in exceptionally meaningful ways. Birk is lovingly remembered by his three sisters Bea, Alannah and Betsy. As well he leaves behind his younger brother Rick, with whom he shared a relationship as close as two brothers could share.

He had many nieces and nephews who touched his heart deeply. Shortly before his death he was able to enjoy special moments with his nieces Anne Erin and Lindsay and his nephews Tom and Peter. Birk felt blessed to be cared for by his sister-in-law Lorna, who was not only his nurse, but also his dear friend. Sylvia and her family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to the following people for their kindness and loving support given during this difficult time: Lorna Lockwood, Drs. Eric Olson, Gary Toth, Ian Waters, as well as Dr.
