MUNICIPAL ART SOCIETY Has Been Incorporated and the Scope of Its Work Is to Be Widened. The Municipal Art Society, which was organized in March, 1893, has recently been incorporated under the laws the Scate of New York. In adopting its new constitution, the society has considerably widened the scope of its work. Hitherto it has entirely depended on the subscriptions its members for funds wherewith to provide decorations, sculptural and pictorial, for the public buildings and streets of the city. I'; will be readily understood that works of this kind in any way proportionate to the dignity of a great city like New Yrk must of necessity be costly; tie society has, therefore, only been able to complete one piece of decoration, namely, Mr.

Simmons' allegorical paintings in the Appellate Court Room in the Criminal Courts Building. Centre street. Its second piece of decoratlvo work, which will be completed 'this summer. Is sculptural this time, and was undertaken in co operation with ten other art societies of the city. This is the "Hunt Memorial," consisting of a large marble bench adorned with allegorical tfcatues and a bust of Richard M.

Hunt, the distinguished architect, by Daniel C. French.) It will be erected in Fifth avenue, against the wall of Central Park, opposite the Lenox Library. In future the wbrlt of the society will em Handkerchiefs at Special Prices. Will place on sale, to morrow, 200 DOZ. LADIES' EMBROIDERED HANDKERCHIEFS, scalloped and hemstitched, ALL PURE LINEN, regularly 25c 30c, ateach, 18c Also, a large lot of LIBERTY SILK BOAS, black, usually $1.50 to $3.00 each, at $1.35 to $1.95 Antique Oak Folding Beds Chiffonier style with carved rail bed, well made and nicely finished.

times of trouble and sickness; nurse and watch over their children, and in fact rescue the whole family from a sea of difficulties, which otherwise would overwhelm them. Such a wife and mother, though she has no gold medals to show for it, is in the true sense of the word the noblest kind of a heroine. Many women have within them the spirit of heroism without the phvsieal capacity to carry it out. They long to be a comfort and help to their husbands and children but are constantly weighed down by some weakness or disease which saps their vital forces, leaving them wretched and powerless to fulfill their highest ambition. I wrs hardly nut of school when I married" sai'.

i .1 handsome young Brooklyn woman to an ucquaimance. I had been studying hard, I was ml: of ambition. I wanted to be accomplished. I wanted to be a musician, a linguist and a society woman all at once. Then I fell in love ar.d became a wife and mother.

My mistake was I tried to accomplish too much and didu't take care of my health and I broke down. I might have been saved world's of suffering if I had been more careful and used a little common sense. I hated to tell my mother how miserable I felt before I married. I thought she would just pooh pooh at me. I think mothers understand more about such troubles now a days than they used to.

I would never allow a daughter of 'mine to marry, being uo stronger than 1 was then. My husband was so kind and considerate I didn't want to be complaining all the time. He insisted on the doctor coming to see me a real good old doctor too. He gave me medicine for my digestion and my headache and something to help my heart action. I somehow could not bear to tell him what the real trouble was.

I knew he would insist ou an examination and I dreaded it so. My married sister told me I ought to write to Dr. Pierce of Buffalo, but felt so guilty'to do that without telling mv husband. But she wrote for me and received a kind, sensible letter telling me how to give myself simple treatment at home. This helped me; and then she got me three bottles of Dr.

Pierce's Favorite Prescription and I began to take it. Pretty soon my husband 6aid something is doing vou good sure You're ever so much stronger "and Then I had to tell him even thing. "First he frowned a little" and shook his head then he just laughed and said well the proof of the pudding is in the eating If this little woman is made well and strong by anybody's Prescription no matter what his name is. G'od bless him, whether he lives in Buffalo or right next And I was made perfectly strong and well by this treatment, as I never had been before in my life." This is a true experience; it is one of thousands which shows that a phvsician like Dr. Pierce who has devoted a life time of special practice to treating ailments peculiar to women can prescribe for them by mail Just as effectively as if the patient was in his office, and a thousand times more effectively than the average doctor whose attention is merely given to general practice.

The above is not a fairy story. It is not the story of one person. It'is the story of thousands of women. It is a composite picture in which one can trace face behind face, lined with suffering, channeled by tears. It is a story as true as the parable of the Prodigal Son, which was not the story of one young man but the storv of the type which repeats itself generation after generation and is as common to Europe as to Asia, to Africa as to America.

Is it your story? Your story either' in whole or in part? There's hope for you. There's help for you. Dr. Pierce's Favorite Prescription has cured so many cases where life was a daihy burden under which the weak and weary body staggered on to the grave, that it can be recommended with the utmost assurance in every case of female disorder. A cure rarely fails to result from the conscientious use of the "Favorite Prescription." Ulceration and inflammation, irregularities, displacements, and uterine disorders in general, all yield quickly to the action of this real and radical remedy.

As the disease is healed the symptoms pass away; pain in the side, difficult breathing, floating specks before the eyes, nausea, weariness and melancholy. The appetite returns, the blood is vitalized, and life which was heretofore a mere existence become a. licr.rtv. happy condition. POST OFFICE NOTICE.

According to its new constitution, It Is possible for to institute and control competitions for works of art to adorn the city, for the execution of which the society itself does not pay.

For instance tha late city government appropriated the sum of $10,000 for the decoration of the ceiling of the new Municipal Assembly room in the City Hall, the money to be spent under the direction of the Municipal Art Society. The society can now hold a competition for this or similar work, paying the expenses of the competition, including the prizes to be awarded in it, out of its own funds, while the city, as In this case, or a public spirited individual, should such present himself, would defray the expense of the actual execution of the work. This will be followed by other competitions of a like nature, some of the objects under consideration by the boards of directors of the society being drinking fountains, park benches, public flag poles, etc. Many of these objects are regarded as purely utilitarian in this country, but are not so considered abroad, where they are often works of art of great merit. The handsome street lamps of the City of Paris, for instance, are too well known to require more than mere mention.

In this way the society hopes not only to increase the field of its usefulness, but to still further stimulate the sentiment of civic pride which finds expression in its motto: 'To make' us love our city we must make our city lovely." Administrator. CO 6mTl BLACK'S GOOD JUDGMENT. To the Editor of tho Brooklyn Eagle: I read with regret that the Governor has refused to rescind his order disbanding the Old Thirteenth. This is a rank injustice to the veteran nnd active members. Very encourag I ing for young men to enlist in similar organ Izations, spend their time, money and sub 1 stance, for from five to twenty years, and be wiped out by one stroke of a pen without even a hearing.

In this matter Governor Black is showing I the samp pood judgment as in his appointment i of his adjutant general. PRO ATRIA. IT YEARS' SERVICE. Brooklyn, May 12, SEA CLIFF NOTES. Sajnu.2l enson of Brooklyn spent "Wednesday an Locust HolK hts.
