The Grand Jury for April was discharged this morning by Judge Hurd in the Couoty Court, after a brief presentment had been read by the foreman, James P. Hefferman. The presentment stated that the Grand Jury had visited the Almshouse, the Ki'ngs County Penitentiary and the Raymond Street Jail.

It was strongly recommended by the Grand Jury some means ahould be found for the employment of the inmates, as enforced idleness had resulted In a marked effect on the prisoners' physical condition, in some cases in. their mental state. In the interest of humanity, the presentment says, some occupation should be provided either in the preparation of raw materials, or In some other way. The Grand Jury did not essay to make any recommendation further than this as to the manner of providing work for the convicts. At Raymond Street Jail the Grand Jury found' the conditions extremely favorable for tha health of the prisoners, but the visitors recommended thai inasmuch as there are only three bath tmbs for the use of the inmates, there should be more bathing facilities provided.

There are now only places for three, but there should be tulbs sufficient for twenty prisoners to ba'the at one time. Otherwise the Jail was to be commended for its cleanliness. The Sheriff, the presentment sai. joined in the wish for more bathing facilities. The Grand Jury was then dismissed with th thanks of the court.
