A splendid donble play by Smith, Foutz and Tinkney marked the npeiiinc of tho game and after that the visitors were not in it. Terry pitched the fust six innings and one, rnn was scored on bases en balls, seven hits beinii made off his pitching witliout a rim being earned.

Foutz pitched in the last three inirngs and but one hit was made off his pitching. Daly played at first base in place of I'outz. Donovan was civen quite a reception on going to the bat. His quiet way of playing has made him a favorite. Terry's batting was a feature of the came.

Clark also caught well, hut his throwing, as usual, was very bad. Miller bore off tho palm in tho field for the visitor, liu double play being a feature. The game was finely umpired by Mr. Lynch. TUu home team was duly applauded on taking the field, but the old time enthusiasm was lacking.

STI A W. tha' (hoy bo 1 af ninistra Brewster, Sergoant Pope stepped forward and presented the lieutenant with a handsome sword and aecoiiternionts. He complimented tho new officer on his enviable record and mentioned the sword as a token of the esteem in which he was held by his comrades, who wished him the same success in his new office as that which had attended him as a sergeant. Lieutenant Wells thanked his friends heartily and said he hoped by close application and study to give satisfaction. Three cheers and the company call were then given for the new lieutenant.

The sword is expensive and handsome. The lieutenant's name and tho date of tho presentation are engraved upon it. The company is in a prosperous condition, having a comfortable balance in the treasury and no debt. Two new memberd were elected Wednesday night and threo are waiting. Sergoant Pope and Corporal Nicholson received their warrants this week.

The company rifie club will shoot on alternate Tuesday evenings, beginning October 7, at 8 o'clock. The appointment Wednesday of Corporation Counsel Almet F. Jenks as Judge advocate general, vice Judzn Dartlett, resigned, iB another addition to Brooklyn's list of military stars and probably a tribute to the Kings county Democracy as well. Tho work of this department is all done for glory, no salary being attached to it. Thero is plenty of work, however, and tho duties DavUl CJ, LoKu'et.

IT.T.1AM JOIIS Til USLOW.i O. r. Seorotar)'. William Ulmer, 31 Belvidero street. Thirty seven men had appeared in answer to a call issued last John W.

Weber called the mooting to order ahd briefly stated that its object was to organize a permanent Domooratio social club, as the want of such an organization in that part of the city had long been felt and as recent political events had made that want even moro apparent; that it was proposed to hire a permanent head (luarters until the club should be in a position to erect a suitable building of its own. His romarks ware enthusiastically received, and all present signed the roll and promised their support. TI13 following temporary officers wero eleotod: President, Adoloh H. Goetling; secretary, August C. Sehavmann, and trcp.surer, Gottfried Wester macher.

The chairman was authorized to appoint a committee of livo on organization, with instructions to draw up a constitution and bylaws to bo submitted to the club at its next meeting. It was decided that previous to olec tiou the new organization should meet every Monday evening, excepting next Monday, at A rion hall, Wall street, Arrangements are also being made to hold a mass moating at tho samo hall for tho purpose of indorsing tho Democratic ticket. Although tbo proposition of a namo for the club was left with the committee on organization, yet th subject was informally disoussed and of a number of sug.otion3 tho namo Bush wick Democratic club met with general favor and will probably be adopted. A Close Iacc for Second I'laco Between YVnrd ami Siwiiifr! Ward's Wonders and wing's Giants both had to succumb to tho prowess ol tho Westerners yesterday and the relative positions of th; teams remain unchanged. The Brooklyn men have a little the best of it.

They have, weather permitting, three games to play with the while the New Yorkers have only two to play and those with the strong aggregation of stars commanded by Comitkey. If Ward can take two out of three he cannot be bcaton for second place, evon if Kw ing's men win every time they play. The gamo in Buffalo yesterday was ono of tho best contested ever brought off in that city and, although tho home team won, the visitors have no reason to be nshamed of the form they put up. Cunningham and Sowdors were the opposing pitchers. Both wero effective, only six bits being made by each side.

Snyder and Pierce wero the umpires and, as has been tho case whenever they have been the judges, Ward could not get a doubtful decision from either of them. Wcy hitig, who was seated on the grand stand, made some remark about the decision on balls and strikes that was offensive to Autociat Snyder, and was ordered out of the grounds. Ho returned at the conclusion of the came, began using language that offended tho umpire and was arrested. Here is the score: One of the moHt iiitei cases which has come up beforo Justice Guetting was that of Mary Smith, of OS Graham avonut', chargod by Deputy Sheriff John G. Agnevr, of 102 South Ninth street.with obtaining $u0 from him by false representations.

The caso came up yeuterday morning and was especially notp.blo iu showing that notwithstanding polieo representations to the contrary policy playing seems to ho carried on as briskly as ever in the Sixteenth ward. Mr. Agucw, the complainant, testified as follows: I live at 102 South Ninth street: not in business at present; used to bo in tho milk business; have kntuvn defendant since May last; used to serve her with raillc: auctioned off my milk business on Thursday last; I frequent oa. Siegrl utreet, owned by ono Brunser; don't know his first name; I took a quart of nnik a day to him; I refuse to btate tiie kind of business carried on there because it might degrade me; can't say I saw defendant there September 27: did not ask her to go to my wife to getJtJO to play policy (witness refused to say whether ha plays policy or not); knew nothing of tho defendant receiving tho money from my wife till she confessed it in the afternoon; she had the money with her: I went to the station houso with her; I had my horse and carriage thero and I drove her to 'the station house nnd told her to get out and sue refused; sho was brought in and I suppose she was locked up; I showed no shield and had no deputy slier ill's certificate. I merely stated I was a private citizen.

llattio Agnew, wife of complainant, testified: I know defendant; saw her September saw her at my home; she said she had just como down from Graham avenue, that she had driven down with my husband in his buggy, and that she wantod $30 or alio would lose $200; that my husband told her to come down aud get $.30 till Monday morning, and I had to go to my sister to get the money. She has not returned it. A hoy.some 1 9 yoars of age, who was einployod in Thursby's barber shop, at 331 Atlantic aveuno, boarded with her, and through this boy the proprietor of the shop induced Mrs. AndefBon to invest her savings in liis business, he claiming that the iucomo from the shop was between $30 and too a week. Wishing to avail herself of such a chance the widow, in July of 1888, purchased tho place, giving $400 in cash and a chattel mortgage for S400. She soon found that tho businoss was not as represented and she was obliged to move away in September, 1880. Shortly after she moved ono Lars Kosedahl wont before Judgo Tigho and charged her with removing chattels upon whioh he held a mortgage of $300.

Mrs, Anderson claims that she knew nothing of such a mortgags and that Thursby novor told her of its existence. Accordingly, as a last resort, she brought suit against Thursby for $2,000 for fraud and misrepresentation and also a BUit against Bosedahl for 000. BEDFOKD K1D1SG CLUB. fotorscn ana rs. detcudanlB.
