If there is any person living in Santa Cruz who is not yet in full accord with the spirit of the community clean-up effort, such person should not fail to attend the opening day luncheon tomorrow at the beach. If any one comes to this common welfare gathering with discontent in his mind or doubt in his soul, he will go away full of new hope and courage.

Joe Enright has accepted the volunteer offer of twenty Santa Cruz "highs" to assist in serving fish and coffee at the distributing stands for the community picnic Saturday, and he is now prepared to serve fish and coffee to 5000, or any number over 5000 up to 11,793. The Bay of Monterey has in its depths the greatest variety of food fish over 400 kinds of any known body of water. This valuable asset will be tasted and talked over at the beach picnic. MAKES ATTEMPT AT (Continued from page one.) sons for trying to end his life this morning he claimed that the attitude of his only daughter, now living in Jackson, in failing to support him, had made him despondent. "I paid between $2000 and $3000 to educate my daughter in Paris and Berlin, and now when I am down and out she won't help me.

Yes, she knows I am living in Santa Cruz." Mr. Abbott said that he would not think of committing suicide from the municipal wharf. "Somebody would jump in after me," he said, "and endanger his own life just on account of my troubles. "I stayed up all night last night," continued the old man, "sitting on the porch of the Seabright hotel. At 4:30 this morning I walked down to the beach and went into the water.

In fact I went in twice before I decided not to take my own life." Further inquiry today developed the fact that Mr. Abbott had been trying to get money from the county for sup. port, but refused to go to the county hospital. Supervisor Harvey finally told him that this county was not responsible for his support and offered to buy his ticket back to San Francisco. He refused to go to the city, but insisted on aid.

He was finally given $5, but was informed that there would be nothing more doing. WOODMEN OF THE WORLD ATTENTION. All neighbors are requested to meet at our lodge hall Sunday morning at 10 o'clock sharp for our Memorial ser vice. Bring flowers. E.
