The win improved Marshall's Florida State League slate to 7-2. Combined with a 13-0 mark for Fayetteville of the South Atlantic League, Marshall is the minors first 20-game winner since Blaise Ilsey.

Like Marshall, Ilsey, who pitches in the Houston Astros chain, is a left-hander and a native of Michigan. In 1986 he was 12-4 with Asheville of the SAL and 8-2 with Osceola of the FSL Consistency has been the keynote phrase in Marshalls success story. A combined 5-5 with Fayetteville and Niagara Falls of the New York-Penn League last year, Marshall won 13 of 14 starts this season for the Generals, posting a 1.33 earned-run average and striking out 81 while allowing just 64 hits and only nine walks in 101 innings. That earned Marshall a promotion to Lakeland, where his numbers havent been as awesome, but are still impressive. In 12 starts, his ERA is 3.13.

Hes struck out 34 while walking 14 in 69 innings. Overall, Marshall has hurled seven complete games and five shutouts this year. start Monday. Just who, or where, they will play is unknown. Albany, London and Canton are in a tight, three-way battle for first place.

Shortstop Dean DeCillis hit .407 last week and leads London with a .289 batting average. Fayetteville (A): The Generals are also preparing for playoff action next week. The World Series champion Athletics, trying for their third straight American League pennant, lead the West division by games over Chicago.

Post-season rosters must be set by midnight Friday. The Oakland Athletics, trying to add power for the post-season, acquired four-time All-Star Harold Baines from the Texas Rangers on Wednesday for two players to be named later. Dubois: The Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday acquired left-handed pitcher Brian DuBois on a waiver claim from the Detroit Tigers. DuBois, 23, will report to the Orioles on Monday for an examination. He missed his last start with Toledo, Detroits Class AAA farm club, because of soreness in his left elbow.

Olson: Baltimore Orioles reliever Gregg Olson has a sore right elbow and will be rested for an undetermined amount of time, manager Frank Robinson said Wednesday Olson allowed five runs in one-third of an inning Tuesday in the Orioles 11-3 loss to the New York Yankees. It was two runs more than he had allowed in each of his previous 125 appearances. An examination on the elbow has not been set. Dykstra: Philadelphia Phillies and center fielder Len Dykstra agreed Wednesday to a three-year contract. Financial terms were not disclosed and the deal includes a fourth year at the club's option.

Dykstra, the National Leagues leading hitter at .340, could have become a free agent at the end of the season.
