Tullio gets Democratic nomination for Erie mayor ERIE, Pa. There were iff rent tactics used than I've ever seen used before," he said. Tullio said he planned to scrutinize the returns Wednesday.

"I'd like to study this," he said. Tullio, who has been Erie's mayor for the last 16 years, will face Republican Terry Palmer in the fall election. Palmer defeated Ed Hammer for the GOP nomination, and Tullio's write-in campaign for the nod apparently failed. With all districts counted, Tullio had 13,839 Democratic votes to 12,558 (or Bagnoni, in the unofficial returns. Bagnoni, a former chief of detectives, had criticized the city's police force during the campaign.

"I don't regret a thing, because everything I said was the truth," Bagnoni said when it became apparent that he had lost. "I knew this would be a horse race and it was. It's just a crying shame there aren't two political parties in this town because the poeple deserve two, but there's only one." Democrats have a huge registration edge in the state's third largest city.
