His rendition of his part last night has added greatly to our appreciation of him. Everything went off smoothly aud well.

The orchestra was not powerful, but was excellent as far as it went. Muzio's reputation is a sufficient guarantee that nothing will be wanting ia this icgard. The stage furniture is not as good as it should be, but the directors wilt remedy this in time. Among the distinguished people present was Mrs. Abraham Lincoln, accompanied by her and a large party of ladies.

She occupied an unassuming position, and one from which an excellent view could be obtained ot tho stage, A number of gentlemen were presented to the future mistress of the White House, and as the rumor passed through the house that Mrs. Lincoln was present, the box she sat in divided attention with the stage. This announcement' coupled with the fact that the opera is one of the most acceptable, will call out we are sure a large audience.

It may be proper again to state that this is an undertaking exclusively in tho hands of the artists themselves. The profit, whatever it may be, goe3 to them the advantage and economy of this plan are obvious, and should the opera not succeed un. tier their management, wa know not hotv it can be made to pay. The people of Brooklyn, we are confident, will do their part to keep alive so refining and so elevating an amusement. Runaway Casualty.

ay, 40S' 4'r 4 i.S' Last eveniDg the first Opera over given in Brooklyn, was rendered at our new Academy of Music; the event would have created a furore among a more impressible people than we are, as it was it drew together a large, cultivated and appreciative audience, an audience we believe that went, not because it was fashionable to go, but because they really enjoy the refining influence of music, and love it for its own sake. The Associated Artist's we are satisfied will rely with more certainty on the taste and patronage of such a class than they can on the moderate, overdressed, fashionable audience, to which they sang on Monday night in our sister city. The Opera selected for the occasion was Merca daDte's "II Guirmento," a work almost unknown to this generation of opera goers. It Has not been produced in New York for several years; it was then decidedly popular. The opera fairly rcpre sents the characteristics of the composer the music is florid, graceful and brilliant.

There is no pretence that there is more in it than appears on the surface the admirers of that school of music which has "depth" in it, may pretend to find in it symbolizalions that nobody but themselves ever dreamed of. The admirers of Merea dantc, and of the great master of his style Verdi must be content to be interested and delighted merely, llercadantc's operas have been superseded by the still more original and more brilliant works of Verdi this and one other only keeping a place upon the stage. "11 Giuramento," as produced at our Academy last eveniDg, was, all things considered, a success There are few detached airas in the opera, that are calculated to represent it in the drawing room; the plot is intricate and the denouement not pleasant still the music, as a whole, is so acceptable and there are so many stirring situations that "Ii Giuramento" will increase in popularity as it becomes better known. The scene of the opera is laid in Italy time, tho 1 ith century. The first scene opens in an illuminated garden in front of Elaisa's (Madame Col son'c) Falace.

A chorus very good but not nu. merous opens with a recitation descriptive of the enjoyment going on in the palace, and regretting the temporary absence of Elaisa. Viscardo (Brignoli) now makes his appearance, and sings a Cavitana, "Bella, adorata immcigine," one of the best, tliii ns allotted to him. The burthen of hi3 complaint for the absence of a loved oue, Bianco. Manfredo (Signor Ferri) Count of Taormi rta, who is in love with Elaisa, makes his appearance in search of her.

Elaisa comes in from a walk in the gardeD, and meets Manfredo and Vis cardo, and manifests love for the latter, to the jealousy of the former. Troni Brunero (Signor Lotti Secretary of the Count, whohas also a purpose to serve, Elaisa learns that her love is not returned by Viscardo, and with this the first act concludes. A moonlight scene, one of Calyo's best efforts, represented the supposed surroundings of Elaisa's palace. The second act, which is really' part of the first opens in a room in Bianca's (Miss Phillips) palace. The act is preceded by a delightful instrumental piece, and is opened by a chorus of female voices.

Miss Phillips now makes her appearance, and sings a cavitana, "Ah! si, mie care, ah, si," one of the gems of the opera. The lady's fine, fresh contralto voice, and sympathetic acting, fairly aroused the enthusiasm of the audience. Mianca is the affianced bride of Manlredo, but she, as well as Elaisa, is in love with Viscardo. Brunero, (who has a secret passion for Bianca), arranges an interview between her and Viscardo, of which Elaisa is a spectator. Thelatter is, of course, enraged at Vis cardo's inconstancy.

While Bianco and Viseardo are together exchanging vows of fidelity, Elaisa enters, and the guilty affiance hides her lover. The duett, if it may be so called, in this act be twei Bianco and Viscardo, la very beautiful and effective. Elaisa, to avenge herself, threatens to inform Manferdo of Bianca's infidelity. Vicardo implores her not to do so, and as soon as he pro notmccs her name Bianca draws a portrait from her bi som, which Elaisa had given her as a token of griui for saving vbe life of her father. Elaisa now suppresses her hatred and her lovo together, nisd when Manferdo enters in a rage she quits his suspicion, tells him Brunaro means to ii.citc the soldiers to revolt.

Mauferdo and Viscardo forget their enmity, and the latter leads an army" against the rebels, and Brunaro falls by his sword. A spirited and brilliant concerted piece, closes the act. The artists were called out, and Madam Colson, Mias Puin.J.'s and Signor3 Brigtioli and Ferrl hgwed their acknowledgments. The. third act as played (the second in the book) opens with a chorus celebratlngtlie victory which is followed by an allegro, which it takes all of Brignoli's melodious voice to make acceptable.

Ho bemoans the loss of Bianca, who, he is informed, has died in his absence. The scene changes to a graveyard, in which Manfredo is in. troduccd. In this scene Ferri wou loud applause by his siDging of the "yUfcucv." His mourning is interrupted by a crowd of followers who eu deavor to inspire him with a martial ardor in which he shall forget the loss of his beloved iii anca whom Manfredo has reported to be dead In the martial air "Tcrmi wilh which the scene closes, Ferii was very acceptable DUuun, 102 i PIS 7ti to 82 87 4 61 lot) Sesdins rr lfO do 1)30 100 do 400 do 1)30 50 Mich Cen rr 250 do 50 M8A' i Rd stk 200 do 50 Clevi lbttj'uhrr. T' members of the convention have exerted their bent elfurth villi their respective members of Congress and others tu secure concilia; ion and peace. The uBkooklyi Association for Improving tiik Condition of the Poor'1 mukis this appeal to the sympathy of the humane and benevolent, in behalf of a class of families that just now, more than any other, require anil are entitled to charitable relief. Ahout two hundred families are now receiving aiu from the Association, maiy of them widows, who lu retofore sustained thensselres mainly by the earnings of their children in sr me enniloy raent. That source has now failed, and desiitution is now before them. They are not beggars; they are never seen in the street; and were it not for the labors of the Visitors of the Association, tliey would be without help or hone.

It is deemed suflicU'nt simply to state these facts. The Hoard of Managers ask for the Visitors, who are now makinp collections, a kind reception and a hearty response. It is hoped that any delay or neglect of any collector will not be made an excuse for notgiving.
