The entertainment at the church Monday was very entertaining and filled the purpose of a Christmas entertainment in a manner that could not be justly criticised. The Peck children had a great time out at the old homestead with their mother, R. Peck, as hostess Christmas Day. Such gatherings at the Peck home have always been well rounded up affairs from any conceivable standpoint of family enjoyment and this was no exception to the rule. However, there was a feature of diversity in attention, out of the order of expectancy, by the presence of Dave Beahm.

of Colorado, husband of she who was formerly Miss Bertha Peck. Mr. Beahm arrived here on a visit on Monday and on finding out that there would be a Christmas gathering, concluded to seclude his presence and walk in unannounced, which he did to a surprising effect and enjoyment of all the home friends. Those' present as given in family mention as follows: Elmer Peck and family. Ray Peck and family, Dewey Peck and family.

Maynard Peck and family, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Hayes, Ira Peck and family, Mr. and Mrs. Alden Peck, Jim Jones and family, Dave Beahm and Mrs.

Ella Peck. Mr. and Mrs. C. M.

Epperson and Arthur spent Christmas at the J. E. Ketchum home at Mildred. The Christmas tree and entertainment was well attended at Union Tuesday evening and everything moved off at a quick step speed and with an accuracy well directed by thoughtful ponderance and consideration. Everybody seemed to be well pleased with the exercises and Mrs.

Potter who acted the part of Mrs. Santa Claus won the hearts of the younger folks. Mr. J. M.

Preston of Iola accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Frank Preston and Free Preston went to Pittsburg todav to attend the funeral of a grand-daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chester Smith, who formerly lived here; as old settlers remember.

Mr. Smith was a half brother of J. M. Preston Mr. Smith has been dead several years and Mrs.

Smith passed away about a year ago, and the two younger generations are known here only by relatives who still survive Mrs. Robert Shoppel and daughter, Bessie, of Geneva, and Phillip Shoppel and wife ate Christmas dinner at the Jess Howard home and later in the day Mr. and Mrs. Amal Shoppel, of Iola, joined the' circle of visitors. G. Drake came in and all enjoyed a Christmas feast together under the roof that had been their protection earlier in life Two fat geese with all of the thinkabel table trimmings composed the dinner. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bliss gave a family Christmas dinner at their home that had generating power of love and affection between the parents and home coming children that The famous William Desmond Taylor murder case at Los Angeles is near a solution at last or else it isn't, depending upon which set of authorities you wish to believe.

District Attorney Buron Fitts says that only one link in the chain of evidence is missing, and ex-Gov. F. W. Richardson says he has definite evidence to identify the slayer. Former District Attorney Asa Keyes, however, scoffs at the story, and Charles Eyton, production manager at the Lasky studios, where Taylor formerly directed, characterizes the disclosures as a fairy tale.

In this layout Taylor is shown with two movies actresses whose names were linked with his following the murder. Above is Mabel Normand; below, beside Taylor, is Mary Miles Minter. We serve chicken dinner every Thursday and Sunday. Lewmans Cafe, 116 West Madison. Mrs.
