ARTS LEISURE 'Suburb' makes N.J. premiere Electronic sculpture show presented WEST ORANGE The New Jersey premiere of the musical "Suburb" will be held at the Theater Under the Stars from Feb. 25 through March 13. For all the books, movies and sitcoms that have either eulogized or vilified them, the suburbs have been largely ignored by musical theater until now. "Suburb" takes an insightful, witty, and nuanced view of the world of the lawnmower, the barbecue, and the mall, exploring Suburb's rites and rituals.

The story revolves around Alison and Stuart, a young professional couple living in the city and now expecting a baby. Stuart finds himself suddenly seized by and overwhelming desire to go suburban, while Alison is afraid of becoming her mother. Rhoda is a realtor hell-bent on selling Alison and Stuart their dream house. Tom is a widower and avid do-it-yourselfer, who in the face of retirement, has reluctantly put his home of 40 years up for sale. "Suburb," the book, is written by by David Javerbaum Robert S.

Cohen; the music is written by Robert S. Cohen and the lyrics are by David Javerbaum. Leslie Potashner of Morristown directs, Tamara Cashour of New York City musical directs and Donald Earle Howes choreographs. In 2000, Suburb won the Richard Rodgers Development Award, which helped fund a workshop production at the off-Broadway York Theatre, directed by Jennifer Uphoff Gray. This workshop led to the show's premiere at Buffalo's Alleyway Theatre.

Following that success, the York Theatre Company in Man WAYNE Technological artist James Seawright is presenting a one-person exhibit in the East Gallery of the Ben Shahn Galleries at William Paterson University through March 4. The exhibit, titled "Constellations," features a selection of Seawright's recent works, created between 2001 and 2005, which were inspired by various constellations, some in the Zodiac, some not. The three-dimensional works are constructed of metal, plastic, and electronic parts. A pioneer of kinetic, electronic sculptures, Seawright began making sculptures in the 1960s, when transistors were just becoming available to the public. He began by working with analog circuitry, and by the mid-1970s was involved with microprocessors, building specialized digital circuits to control interactive sculptures.

Seawright has produced works that are in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum and the Guggenheim Museum of New York, the Rose Art Museum at Brandeis University, the New Jersey State Museum at Trenton and other museums throughout the world. A graduate of the University of Mississippi, Seawright received a lifetime achievement award in 2003 for his significant contributions to sculpture from the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters. A professor of the Council of the Humanities and visual arts at Princeton University, where he has been a faculty member since 1969, Seawright served as acting director and then director of Princeton's program in visual arts from 1975 to 2001. In 2004, Seawright was presented with Princeton's Behrman Award for distinguished achievement in the humanities. Entertainment magazine" in which he featured his independent film, "Remedy," and its cast (Vincent "Big Pussy" Pastore, Frank Vincent and Ace Frehley from the rock band KISS). While filming "Remedy," Doscher was able to use local people and local commerce in this movie. For example the Tri-boro ambulance was driven by former Woodcliff Lake mayor Josephine Higgins. "Remedy" premiered at the American Film Market in Los Angeles and was approached by a number of companies that bid on the rights to represent and distribute the film.

The film is currently available on Amazon.com and will be available in local Blockbuster Video Stores on March 29. Now after the success of "Remedy," Doscher is able to move onto his next feature length film. His current project is called "4CHOSEN" and it is based on the real life account of four young basketball players wrongly shot during a "routine" traffic stop by state troopers on the New Jersey Turnpike in April 1998. This story tackles such issues as racial profiling, fighting for your rights against a corrupt system and surviving against the odds. Doscher and his company, Starline Films, are reportedly in negotiations with several well-known stars in the movie industry, including director David Anspaugh and to partake in this dramatic real life story.

They hope to start production later this year.
