The Common Council laBt evening canvas. Bed the returns of the Inspectors of the late election. The canvass is published in our columns to day. It will be seen in it, that, in the seventh ward, six of the votes originally stated to have been for John A. Cross were cast for Cross." Throwing out these, and also the two votes given for "Chadbourne" and Shaborn the democratic candidate, Zebulon Chad bourne, would be elected by four majority.

The report of the minority is also publ ished, but as this appears to have been written under the supposition that the votes of Chadbourne and Shaborn would be claimed, though they were not, it affords the best argumentor the election of Zebulon Chadbourne, which could be wanted for is not an established abbreviation for any name, as for John or "Jag." for James, The result is, that Alderman Osborne will hold over until a new election, or until the seat shall be awarded to Mr. Chadbourne by the courts of law.
