Seventy couples were present, forming one ol the best, happiest, most sociable, and agreeablo parties that ever met in this city. Everything was conducted in the most appropriate and orderly manner.

The arrangements ol" the lady managers were well adapted to the occasion, and they were most agreeably carried out. The following were the MANAGERS Mrs Hubbard, Miss Ferrell, Miss Gouge, Miss Ray, Mrs Norteu, Miss is Higley, Miss Roberts, Miss Roberts, Mrs Brewer. Miss Roberts, floor manager. Tlieso ladies acted their parts most admirably, aud to the gratification of every person in the ball. It was indeed novel to witness the reversed order so generally preserved at dancing parties.

The gentlemen were seated around the hall, aud the ladies, with card in hand, were passing along, engaging partners, and introducing each other to the gentlemen. Mr. shall 1 have the pleasure of dancing with you the 9th figure? It is a Waltz Quadrille," and a slight courtesy responded to the half timid if you please," aud the sparkling eyes of Miss dropping upon her card.aB she noted the number and the uaino. The beautiful and modest Miss in the softest whisper, addresses Mr. The 13th is the Sieiliau Circle recollect you arc my partner for that figure." "With the greatest pleasure," replies Mr.

aud so it was all around the hall. Then came a musical little voice the ladies will take their partners for a quadrille" the gentlemen are most gallantly led upon the floor, and the sets are formed with the strictest order. Again the little effeminate voice of the "Floor Manager" is heard, as the gentlemen are seated Members of the Independent Leap Year Club, you will see that the gentlemen are provided with partners, aud that they are iu no way neglected You will be particular in furnishing escorts wlieu they leave the Hall." Again: "Take your partners for a quadrille" "form your sets with us little delay as possible" "loud talking is not allowed iu the sets" "another couple wanted for this set" two couples for this" "all ready and then Shaw Sibley's Band give the sound, aud seventy couples are whirling in the dance. Miss 'a little figure attracted attention aud elicited compliments: Miss was admired for her neat and modest appearence a beautiful figure, with fairy like step, appeared brilliantly Miss of Frout street, appeared to the best advantage, and many were the compliments bestowed Miss li and Miss were favorites, and were active in making everything agreeable, and the "Floor Manager" "drew down the house" by the admirable manner iu which she superintended the whole affair. Notwithstanding the fact that the ladies took the lead, there was becoming modesty displayed, which had the happiest effect.

There was never a more chaste, happy, iunocent party assembled in Hartford. At midnight, supper was announced. It was served by Air. Burgess, of the City Hotel, in his best style. The delicacies" and the" substan tials" the solid aud fancy were spread out in profusion.

The ladies waited upon the gentlemen, aud the entertainment was woll disposed of. After supper the dauce was resumed, aud the party finally broke up in the most cheerful manner. Malicious Mischief. About a half score ol urchins were arrested yesterday and brought belore the police magistrates on a charge of doing malicious mischief to an unfinished building in Willow place, on Sunday last. The damage consisted iu mutilating and defacing the hard fiuished walls.

They likewise kindled a fire, aud were within an ace of setting fire to the house, but their operations were fortunately discovered, in time to prevent further damage, by Mr. Young, the builder. We understand that the practice of making such houses their Sabbathres ort for unhallowed orgies, is practised to a considerable exleut by the youthful Goths and Vandals of this goodly city of churches. Those arrested will be held strictly accountable for the damage they have enacted. Fraternal Affection.

A man named Patrick McLaughlin appeared at the police office yesterday, and made a complaint against his brother John, of having feloniously stolen, taken, aud carried away, a cart belonging to him, the said Patrick This comprehensive charge proved upon investiga tion, to be a fiction in more ways than oue. John coutended that he had as much claim to the cart as his brother, aud furthermore that he didn't carry it away, for the simple reason that he could not lift it. There being no felonious intent proved, the magistrate did not feel bound to interfere further, and dismissed the case, eart, and parties. The suit of J. W.
