President Motte called the attention of the memliern of tho Club to the fuel that several individuals IihiI spoken to him on lie propriety of cxjiellin W.K.

hue for Ins action tn the Lake Mer ced water scheme, and said that so fur as he himself was concerned he waa in favor of paying no attention to tho utterances of individuals who were antagonistic to the principles and wel. fare of the party. Mr. Mette's remarks met the approbation of the Club. John Nash arose to a question of privilege, stating that a member of tbe party, who was present, had made some malicious statements, to the effect that he, Nash, had received resolutions from the San Francisco Work, ingmen's Clubs, purporting to favor the expulsion of Win.

F. White from this Club, snd wished to brand the statement as false, as he had received no communication from San Francis, oo or any other source bearing on the expulsion of Mr. White. Pat C'allinan said no doubt r.Nash alluded to him as being the party who made such statements, and pled guilty to tbe charge, alleging that he had made such statements, and heard that such was the case from hulf a dozen diflorent parties that but as his memory was sadly deficient, he failed to recollect the name of a single individual who spoke to him on the subject. J.

M. Cutler was of the opinion that the Workingineti ought to iy but little attention to the statements published by tho enemies of the party, and advocated calm and deliberate action. has. Kaye made one of his most sonsible and logical speeches, which had the effect of quieting all discord that seemingly prevailed among some of the members. Ha said that ho had been working In the coiintrv for the past week, and hoard that discord existed in the ranks of the W.

P. bnt advised them to pay no attention to tbe Insinuation cast upon the late standard-bearer of the Workingmen, until something omuial could be re ceived from the Workingmen them selves, for the enemies of the party would distort and condemn everything that operated for the good of the W. r. 1. He said Mr.

bite requested twenty-four hours for deliberation before he accepted the Coinniissionsliip; that he hod studied the matter over carefully, and became convinced that he was correct; ho went upon the commission, and had done everything to the best of his ability while in the capacity of Commissioner. By invitation c. E. Uoss briefly gave his views on the currency lem. The Secretary, then by request, read an essay receutly published In the Sentinel at the request of the Workingmen, (because tbe considered it tbe most conservative Journal published in Santa Cruz county), on the currency question, entitled, "Will Congress Kill the Legal Tender," which was loudly spplauded.

At the meeting last Saturday evening no business of importance was transacted, except that Messrs. (loss snd Pilkington gave extended re marks on the currency question, after which the Club adjourned. 1.1st or Letters Remaining In the Postofflce at Banta Cms, Jan. 31st, 18K0: a-illou, 8 IHolcomb, ncnjamin, Mil 31 Kennedy, Oscar I'olK, Mrs Mcott, John Warner, Mrs Peter Wood, Wm Frey, Joseph Garrett, Frank Gilbert, JOHN BKAZF.K, P. There can be no doubt that one of Uie necessities of this city and vicinage is a good drive. All leading watering places have them. People who go to fashionable resorts do to for recreation and amusement.

Several years ago they used to bring their fine horses and equipages to Santa Cruz. Kot so now. They have been here and know that we have no decent "road over which to trot their fine turn-outs. We realize this fact, particularly those among us who have teams of their own; and we have few teams, as there is no road over which there is much pleasure in exercising them. There has been much talk of opening a road from the light-house, following along the beach to the Ocean View Driving Park, where an intersection is to be made with Mission street.

The distance round as mapped out is about five miles, aid it is said the right of way can be obtained without cost. To build the road fourteen hundred dollars are necessary, and to obtain this amount Messrs. Barson aud Scott have circulated a subscription paper the present week. They were meeting with considerable success when last heard from, and we trust our people will come forward with the necessary funds. We do not look on the subscription as a donation.

It is an investment, and one necessary to be made if Santa Cruz is not going to play second fiddle to Monterey. Every taxpayer, wake up and put npl Weather. The heaviest fall of snow experienced In this city (ell on Monday morning last. For the two weeks preceding that date we had delightful weather. On Sunday last a alight shower of rain fell.

During Sunday night and Monday morning more rain, unattended by wind. At 8:45 Monday snow fell, entirely covering the distant hills. Showered during the balance of the day. But little rain fell during Tuesday. Tuesday night was cold, a light rain falling at nine o'clock In the evening, although at the time the earth was covered with frost.

The night waa exceedingly cold, and the frost the next morning was immense. IMaas frrat Wrifkt'i Rtatlea and Ike IMsnsailt. Last Sunday night the atmosphere waa clear and warm, and on the fol-owlng morning before day snow began to fall by aunriee. It had fallen to tbe depth of five inches, and still warm. The white covered bills and trees was a beautiful sight, and such an unexpected change continually called forth expressions of pleasure and surprise.

Four horses were hitched to a large wood-aled and a number of eager onea seated themselves among robes and shawls, and away we went to the clamor and clash of oow bells. As we flew by neighbors they ran to see us pass, saluting as with snow ball and shout. At Prof. Allen's farm tbe snow is now tea inches deep. There is two drifts near Mr.

Slaughter's between three and four feet thick. Wednesday It was very cold, snowing a couple of inches the previous night. Such a storm of anow has not been known for some fifteen years.
