69 PACIFIC AV. A aw of a Squires-Jeffries battle being arranged. News comes from Los Angeles, however, tthat Jeffries has abandoned his European tour, but whether this improves the chance of a fight between the Australian and the retired world's champion remains to be seen. Jeffries, it is understood, has made up his mind to go into 'the saloon business at Los Angeles. Anyway, Jeffries will be on the ground when Squires and the winner of the Burns-O'Brien bout box and if the foreigner should win it almost goes without saying that "the big fellow" will make good his thread that he would never allow a stranger to walk away with the title without trying to wrest it from him.

Incidentally the fight followers of San Francisco are wondering if any-thing has gone wrong with the Burns-O'Brien affair, for which Mc-Carey, the Los Angeles promoter, offered a purse of $30,000. It was announced by Tommy Burns several weeks ago that the event would take plsce on May Oth, but with that date only thirty days away there is nothing to indicate that arrangements are be ing made for the affair down in Mc-Carey's bailiwick. Rurns is at Los Angeles at present, there is nothing to show that he has begun training for a contest which under existing circumstances assumes Office: 382 Pacific and B. M.
