Victoria-Haliburton), former Lindsay mayor, begged lor sympathy and understanding on behalf of elected municipal officials Tuesday when he spoke at the annual meeting of the Renfrew North Liberal Association. "If your tax bill is up considerably this year, don't put all the blame on your municipal people," he told an audience of about 80. "They have no alternative because of lack of support from (provincial treasurer) Darcy McKeough. Mr. Eakin recalled that' Mr.

McKeough brought down supplementary budgets of S500 million in 1974 and S2IHI million in 1975. "He'll be back for more again this year," Mr. Eakin predicted. During the last election campaign Liberal candidates across the province emphasized the need for exercising financial responsibility, he said. The government should have cut back on expenditures rather than offer "obvious pre-election goodies'' such as the first-time home owners' grants, the two per cent reduction on provincial sales tax and the tax rebate on cars, Mr.

Eakin said. "These three items alone mean a loss of provincial revenue of nearly half $1 billion and now we're going to be taxed to make up for it, now that the election is over." said Mr. Eakin.
