"A guy offered me a job and he's driving us out," he said. Mabel answered that call three years ago today. It's the last time she heard from her son. Ronald Jack, 26, and his common-law wife, Doreen, also 26, left their Prince George home Aug. 2, 1989, with their two young children, Russell and Ryan.

They haven't been seen since. Prince George RCMP continue to investigate the family's mysterious disappearance, but they haven't come close to solving the case. 1 1 I 1 I 1 I 1 1. Missing for three years: Doreen Jack (above) with son Ryan; son Russell (below left) and father Ronald Jack. Russell, 9, and Ryan, 4, would be looked after by a camp babysitter.

"Ronnie was so friendly, always smiling and joking," Mabel said. "He really wanted to work." The family left their fourplex home in a dark-colored, four-wheel-drive truck driven by the man Ronald had met in the pub. Ronald's father reported the family missing 24 days later. Both Mabel's son and daughter-in-law would be 29 years old now. Her grandsons would be 12 and seven.

When she last saw Ronald, he was five feet, six inches tall, weighing 150 pounds and with collar-length black hair. Doreen, who also goes by the last name of Edmond, was five-foot-two, 1 1 1 pounds, with long, black hair. The family are members of the Cheslata Indian band. Mabel still has their furniture stored at her home, waiting for their return. "I miss Ronnie so much," she said.

"Sometimes I dream about him, but his face is different. I hope they're still alive." The police have followed 316 separate leads 87 are still being actively pursued. The RCMP's serious-crime unit in Vancouver has also been involved in the case. "This one is definitely unusual," Strader said. "For a whole family to just disappear it's bizarre." MYSTERY MAN drove off with missing family kilometres west of Prince George.

Ronald had worked in a sawmill before injuring his back. He was unemployed, living on welfare and looking for another job when he met the man in the pub. "He was really happy about that job," his mother said. "They left everything. They just took blankets and some clothes." The unidentified man was 35 or 40 years old and tall between six feet and six feet, six inches.

He had reddish-brown hair parted at the side and a full beard. He told Ronald he would pay Doreen to work as the camp cook. vve nave 101s ui leaus, uui we haven't found anyone yet," said RCMP Const. Paul Strader. "It would be nice to find the people, or their remains.

It would definitely put a lot of minds at ease." Earlier on the night the Jacks disappeared, Ronald was in the First litre pub on Strathcona Avenue, four blocks from his home. He met a man there who offered him a job at a logging camp in the Bednesti Lake area, about 48 jig.
