Pl4 The PrOViflCe Friday, September 6, 1991 But fatherhood's a far bigger thrill for Hearst mm I This has been a banner year for Rick Hearst. Just one day before he received the Emmy for best younger actor for his portrayal of Alan-Michael Spaulding on Guiding Light, Hearst's wife, Donna presented him with their first child, Nicholas Charles. Being a daddy was the bigger thrill, Hearst says. "The Emmy goes away, the baby stays. The timing was a coincidence. Her water broke the morning of July 26. 1 said to her, 'Well, I guess I'm going to have to find someone else to take to the Emmys.' I took my father." Born in Howard Beach, N.Y., Hearst moved to Texas with his mother at an early age (his parents are separated). He'd wanted to act ever since he got his first role, in a Grade 1 play. "I was a huge ham and had a crush on the teacher so I said I'd do it. In high school I auditioned for Bye Bye Birdie and got the lead role of Conrad.." 'Cricket' hopped into Y&R by herself Even though she's the bosses' daughter, Lauralee Bell, who plays Cricket Blair Romalotti on The Young and the Restless, makes sure she doesn't get preferential treatment. "Don't treat me any differently than you would any other actor," she told her parents. r mwiw-- Bell's father William is co-creator and executive producer of Y&R and is responsible for developing the long-term story ideas for the soap. Cncket has emerged as one of Y&R's most popular characters and Bell's a big hit with fans, recently voted "favorite soap opera actress" in Teen magazine's national poll. And she got on the series by her own initiative. At the age of nine (she's 22 now) she asked to be a non-speaking extra in one episode. By age 13, she'd graduated to a brief scene with a speaking part, and back home in Chicago she studied acting, tap and singing with a vengeance. On subsequent trips to the Los Angeles studios, she parlayed her two-, three- and four-day appearances into a recurring role.
