A word to J.ontr iKlit iiilers! IX there be any peculiar section, above all others, which should endeavor to aid tho future Democratic ascendancy in the councils of the State, through the ensuing election, wo think that Kings county that Long Island is that section. Long Island is not interested in those specious forms of internal improvement' under which so much of Uio peoplo's money has.

of lato years been squandered and which have taken the hard earnings of Long Inland farmers and mcchancis, and in some form or other put it in the pockets of distant speculators It is well Jtuown that the. Whigs, in the interior (and at first a portion even of our own party though that has passed away, now) got up the most furious opposition to Gov. Wright, because he would not connive at those miscalled schemes of improvement' This opposition to him in the interior is the very clenching argument why he should be supported by the people vfthe south west. Here, at least, it cannot be said that we wish to pay money for all sorts of local canals, roads, in regions two or three hundred miles away! Here, at least, we can realize that virtue in a Chief Magistrate which looks to tho rights of the whole people and will not bo swayed from its high integrity by the enmity of any number of baffled special interests, and speculators, seeking to fatten on the people's treasury. Men of Long Island It were a shalno and a disgrace to us, did wo desert Silas Wright, in the position which circumstances have pnt him, now! And to desert him for such a man as John Young a man identified with the very opposite of Mr.

Wright's wishes and principles a man for squandering, for giving every and any local interest its due sop a man made np of the worst peculiarities of the party which the true Democrat will oppose, while he has a hand to raise, or a vote to deposite Free trade men Now, men of Brooklyn who feel the truth one of the greatest and noblest in the Democratic codo that prohibition' and protection', and all unnecessary bars to trade, are against the true spirit of freedom now we call upon you to espouse the ticket presented to you at the editorial head of this paper! We are not afraid lo say in the most opon manner that tho Democracy of this section go into the coming contest the avowment of opposition to prohibitive or protective tariffs, and to laws which stand as obstacles in the way of trade between community and community, or between man and man. at me corner of Nassau and Adams streets. o7 aw other parts of the globe, where disease cx The United States and the Canadas have years severely tested the virtues whieh mrNh eSte 4Ti JGXTHKJL CJOAllW Two single Gentlemen SjJB" may find pleasant rooms and board at No. 0 Willow street, Brooklyn. tf Oltit i HSitVi 'S BREAST I'INS, of a variety ol pattorns, fur hy WM.

Thero was a solemn, eloquently written document circulated in these diggings not many seasons ago, appended to which are the names of Francis B. Slryker, (our Whig Mayor) John Dikeman, Burden Stryker, and many other gentlemen, now as before, prominent in the Whig ranks from which document we cull the following extracts Fellow citizens.

When in the course of ovents, a now party, acting on a now combination of established principles, is, from necessity or choice, called into being, it is due, as well to the projectors as to the rest of their fellow citizens; that the moves and objects of the one, and the manner in which it affected the other, should be clearly and candidly defiued. We, therefore, doclaro to you and to the world, that the which we, as a new party, seek to accomplish are mainly these two Such an alteration iu the Naturalization Laws as to require all foreigners who shalL come to tbis country with a view to make it their permanent residence, to declare, upon oath, within one year after their arrival, their attachment to the Constitution, and that it is their iutention to becomo citizens of the United States, and that after such declaration shall be made, they shall evince the sincerity and soundness of their principles and intentions, by a due observance of the Constitution and laws for a much louger period than five years, before they shall be admitted to citizenship and wo are of opinion that 21 years probation aro required. Secondly, To oppose the elevation of foreigners to office. We also hold that as foreigners in no other part of the globe are allowed to interfere in the concerns of government, to protect ourselves against foreign machinations, and to enable the country to remain pure in the national principles of its government, and as strong and united ia its policy as other countries, that we also should exclude foreigners from holding office, or oxercising any direct control in our political concerns. They have como over in ship loads to our shores, aud now, after a residence of five years, exercise more influence in our eloctions than the natives of the soil.

For all these reasons and others too numerous to be stated in this address, we, the Native American Convention, do solemnly declare that we will by all necessary legal and constitutional means, endeavor to procure such an alteration in our Constitution and laws, as will prevent foreigners who may hereafter come to this country, from holding office amongst us, and deuy them the rights of voting until after a residence of twenty one years. And for the attainment of these ends, donying hostilities to any individual, and without expressing any preference for previous existing political parties, we pledge ourselves to our fellow.citizens and to each other, that wi will engage in a continual AND UNTIRING EXERTION. We re publish, on our First Page, the proceedings of the County Meeting, with the Congressional Delegation's report, and Mr. Murphy's speech. Wo have little desire to as there is hardly any need that wc should append many words of our own on the topic of that Report. It makes the case clear enough and although we entertain no ill will toward Judge B. P.

Winant, or that small portion of Staten Islanders who assume to claim for him the nomination wo must be allowed to express a surprise that the considerations and facts set forth iu that Report do not induce Judge W. to withdraw at once aud we are not without hopes, well founded ones, that he will withdraw We observe that the Whig print in this city, the Advertiser, has been mado the organ of the fore mentioned opposition to Mr. Murphy. era were deceii FULA and atl What tire true Whigs of Kentucky think of the 'true Whiffs' of N. If. The Louisville Journal of October 5th, the organ of Mr. Clay, published by his biographer and friend, Prentiss, has the following hint to the true Whigs" of New York Some of tho Whig papers in New York oppose Mr. Young, the Whig nominee for the office of Governor, on the ground that his past votes in the New York Legislature show a leaning toward anti rentism.

If this charge against him has any truth in it, the convention that nominated him deserves the execration of every true Whig in the State." Tho National Intelligencer, the organ of the Clay Whigs at Washington, joined, it is well known, in earnest deprecation of the attempt to nominate Young. This consignment of the Whig candidate, and the convention that nominated him," to the "execrations" of Whiggery, is not so bad Mr. Clay, however, is not of the mum school of politicians, and has little sympathy with them. Important about Ballots. Tho Democrats hereabout must bear in mind that the names of all the candidates to be voted for at this election are to be on one ticket, and that endorsed State." Of course the ballot will contain the names of the persons voted for as Governor, Lieutenant Governor, Canal Commissioners, Senator, Representative iu Congress, Sheriff, County Clerk, Members of Assembly, and Coroners.

There will be three boxes used by tho Inspectors one to receive tho ballots for the various offices one for tho amended Constitution and one in relation to Negro Suffrage. Guion. Tne Independent Treasnry, Yes: we gladly welcome this issue, too Though settled the law of the land decided by the solemn voico of the people iu Congress assembled the Independent Treasury system is yet harped upon by the Whigs, particularly iu this section, (see res. at late Whig meeting at Brooklyn Garden,) as a matter to be considered iu tho pending election a system to be repealed' If the Whig organs iu Brooklyn, however, rxpect to make profit now out of the vulgar prejudice which crewhile existed among those who did not know either the provisions or probable results of tho Independent Treasury scheme, they are reckoning without their host, wo rather think. Tho people have now, we think, too, that sober second thought' the result of the banking operations of the last twelvo years iu this country. At all events, wo avow, as far as we are concerned, an uncompromising adherence to the Independent Treasury system of dicorcing State from Bank and aro against any return to the old system.
