THE SAUNA JOURNAL NEWS THURSDAY, JANUARY 9. 1997 A3 DEATHS FUNERALS Maxine Ade ABILENE Maxine Ade, 73, Abilene, died Tuesday, Jan. 7,1997, at Memorial Hospital, Abilene. Mrs. Ade was born Maxine Kohman on March 20,1923, at Abilene and was a lifelong area resident.

She worked for Memorial Hospital, Abilene, and Dr. Hampton DDS. She was a member of Emmanuel Church, Abilene. Survivors include her husband, Emmanuel of the home; two stepdaughters, Ardis Hanson of El Dorado and Elizabeth Plotner of Wichita; three stepgrandchildren; and three stepgreat-grandchildren. A memorial service will be at 2 p.m.

Friday at Temple Church, rural Gypsum, the Rev. Charles Norman officiating. Private burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice in care of the funeral home. The casket will remain closed.

Visitation will be until 11 a.m. Friday at Martin-Becker-Carlson Funeral Home, 414 N.W. Third, Abilene 67410. Rhonda Lynn Baker MINNEAPOLIS Rhonda Lynn Baker, 39, Minneapolis, died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 1997, at the Ottawa County Hospital, Minneapolis.

Ms. Baker was born May 26,1957, at Minneapolis and lived in the area most of her life. She was a secretary and receptionist at Eldorado Industries, Minneapolis, and a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Minneapolis. Survivors include three daughters, Katina Marie Sherbert, Kristen Renee Sherbert and Katelyn Elizabeth Baker, all of Minneapolis; her parents, Mike and Sharolyn Baker of Minneapolis; two brothers, Mickey Baker of Minneapolis and Monte Baker of Wichita Falls, Texas; a sister, Lenda Prince of Branson, and grandmother, Evelyn Garrison of Minneapolis. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m.

Saturday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Minneapolis, Monsignor James Hake officiating. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis. A rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Shields Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Ottawa County or Love Minneapolis.

Visitation will be after 1 p.m. today at the funeral home, 405 Argyle, Minneapolis 67467, and before the service Saturday at the church. Donald E. Brown HOISINGTON Donald E. Brown, 92, Hoisington, died Wednesday, Jan.

8, 1997, at the Hoisington Rehabilitation Center. Mr. Brown was born Sept. 29,1904, at Manhattan and was a resident of Hoisington since 1945. He formerly worked for Remington-Rand Typewriter Co.

and was a retired gauger for Kaw Pipe Line, a Division of Texaco, after 35 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Garden Club and Heritage Club, all of Hoisington. Survivors include his wife, Lula of the home; two sons, Kenneth E. of St. Johns, and Dennis L.

of Independence, two daughters, Karen Shoop of Salina and Judy Cook of Mulvane; a sister, Elaine Martin of Topeka; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and five stepgrandchildren. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, Hoisington, the Rev. Joseph Coachman and David Wheeler officiating. Burial will be in Hoisington Cemetery.

Buck 71, Clay Center, died Tuesday, Jan. 7,1997, at his home. Mr. Buck was born March 30, 1925, in Clay County and was a Clay Center resident since 1969, moving from Wichita. He was a World War II Army Air Corps veteran.

He was a general laborer. A son, Warren, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Waleta of Clay Center; four sons, Robert Jr. of Fayetteville, Ronald of Benton, Terry Lee of Clay Center and Clinton of Dallas; a daughter, Margaret Marie Buck of Lincoln, a sister, Hazel Docking of Byers, a stepdaughter, Carol Sutler of Oak Hill; and 13 grandchildren. The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m.

Mrs. Cannon was born Sylvia M. Pejsha on Aug. 1,1907, at Ellsworth and was a lifelong resident. She was a homemaker, an antique dealer and a member of St.

Bernard's Catholic Church, Ellsworth. Her husband, William, died in Survivors include two nephews. The service will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Ellsworth Memorial Cemetery, the Rev. Daniel Scheetz officiating.

Ryan Mortuary, Salina, is handling arrangements. Eva Walker Custer WaKEENEY Eva Custer, 94, WaKeeney, died Monday, Jan. 6, 1997, at the Gove County Medical Center, Quinter. Mrs. Custer was born Eva Walker on Nov.

17, 1902, north of WaKeeney hi Trego County and lived most of her life in the WaKeeney area. She taught English and Spanish at Gove and Kinsley; was librarian for WaKeeney Library; and worked for Gibson Drug Store, WaKeeney. She was a member of the WaKeeney Presbyterian Church where she was a Sunday School teacher; Presbyterian Women; Chapter CT P.E.G.; and Trego County Historical Society, and a former member of the Order of Eastern Star Margaret Chapter 249. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Earl, in 1974 and a son, Ray in 1993. Survivors include a son, Charles F.

of Chicago; three daughters, Jeanne Conner of Ashland, Kathleen Bankston of Baton Rouge, and Sara Overton of Chicago; 12 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Everhart WICHITA Wayne E. Everhart, 77, Wichita, died Tuesday, Jan. 7,1997. Mr. Everhart was born May 30, 1919, at Abilene.

He was a retired Boeing test engineer supervisor. Survivors include his wife, Fern of Wichita; a daughter, Janis Everhart of Dallas; and a brother, Leon of Santa Maria, Calif. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at First Evangelical Free Church, Wichita. Burial will be at 2 p.m.

Frans, 78, McPherson, died Tuesday, Jan. 7,1997, at Memorial Hospital, McPherson. Mrs. Frans was born Lillian M. Hapgood on July 28, 1918, at McPherson and was a lifelong resident.

She was a data-entry clerk for Farmers Alliance Mutual Insurance McPherson. She was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, McPherson, and a volunteer for the Friendship Meals Program at McPherson Senior Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, in 1987 and a granddaughter. Survivors include two sons, Dale of Newton and Dennis of McPherson; a daughter, Cheri Wray of McPherson; a sister, Gado Hawkins of Escondido, 14 grandchildren; and six great- grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m.

Friday at Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home, 222 W. Euclid, McPherson 67460. Joseph G. Friendly HAYS Joseph G. Friendly, 91, Hays, died Tuesday, Jan.

7, 1997, at Hays Medical Center. Mr. Friendly was born April 29, 1905, at Sedalia, moved to Hoxie in 1934, Selden in 1942 and to Hays after his wife died. He retired from Central Kansas Power Co. in 1970.

He had played semipro basketball in Colorado and was mayor of Monument, in 1929. He was a charter member of the Selden Lions Club and a member of the Masonic Lodge and Order of Eastern Star, both of Selden, and the Masonic York Rite. He also was an amateur radio operator and served on the Selden City Council. His wife, Grace, died in 1984. Survivors include a son, Richard of Hays; a daughter, Betty Murphy of Phillipsburg; a brother, Jack of Peoria, two sisters, Fern Bonardi of Peoria and Phyllis Warner of Milwaukee, six grandchildren; six great- grandchildren; and three grfeat- great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Pauls Funeral Home, Selden, the Rev. Floyd Starr officiating. Burial will be in Selden Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Kansas Masonic Home.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and after 8 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, Selden 67757. Edward Dean Frobenius LINCOLNVILLE Edward Dean Frobenius, 70, Lincolnville, died Wednesday, Jan.

8, 1997, at the Herington Municipal Hospital. Mr. Frobenius was born Aug. 8, 1926, at Lincolnville and returned to the area in 1994. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II.

He was a plant manager and screen printer. He was a member of Marion County Aviation Association and United Methodist Church, Lincolnville. He was preceded in death by a grandchild. Survivors include his wife, Betty of Lincolnville; two sons, Gordon Dean of Panama City, and Ronald Karl of Laport, Texas; a daughter, Deanna Baluk of Navosota, Texas; a brother, Marion of McPherson; two sisters, Betty Beneke of Lincolnville and Lulu Swenson of Lindsborg; eight grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2 p.m.

to 8 p.m. Friday at the Zeiner Funeral Home, 205 Elm, Marion 66861. Millie Helmer WINFIELD Millie Helmer, 84, Winfield, died Monday, Jan. 6, 1997, at Oklahoma City. Mrs.

Helmer was born Millie Moninger on Dec. 28, 1912, at Durham and was a Winfield resident since 1985. She was a minister's wife and they served in Brazil, South America, Beatrice, Canton and Wellington. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Winfield. She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev.

Martin, in 1988 and a granddaughter. Survivors include five sons, Martin of Tescott, David of Gaylord, Paul of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Luther of Winfield and Ted of Wichita; a daughter, Ruth Stuewe of Oklahoma City; 20 grandchildren; and six great- grandchildren. The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Winfield, the Rev. Roderick A.

7, 1997, at Sabetha Manor Care home. Mr. Lowdermilk was born Nov. 15,1909, near Glen Elder and was a Sabetha resident since 1960, moving from the Glen Elder area. He was a farmer.

He worked for Mid- American Dairy, retiring in 1974, and worked for the Sabetha school system for 10 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, Sabetha, Sabetha Saddle Club, Glen Elder Saddle Club, and Coon Hunters Club, Humboldt, Neb. A stepson, Richard Braden, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Edith of the home; a son, Robert of Morrill; a stepson, James Braden of Grove, two stepdaughters, Patricia Ritchey of Salina and Constance Menhusen of Wamego; 15 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2 p.m.

today at the funeral home. Thelma Jane Lyda RUSSELL Thelma Jane Lyda, Russell, died Tuesday, Jan. 7,1997, at her home. Mrs. Lyda was born Thelma Jane Winters at Kansas City, and was a resident of Greensburg, Junction City and Wichita before moving to Russell in 1970.

She worked for J.C. Penney Junction City, and Beech Aircraft, Wichita. Survivors include her husband, Bob of the home; and a sister, Grace Looney of Lee's Summit, Mo. The funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Pohlman's Memorial Chapel, Russell, the Rev.

Opal Minnie Moore BELOIT Opal Minnie Moore, 79, Beloit, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 1997, at Mitchell County Hospital, Beloit. Mrs. Moore was born Opal Minnie Williams on March 9, 1917, at Beloit and was an area resident most of her life. She was a secretary for American Soil Conservation Service and a receptionist for McDonald-Roberts Funeral Service.

She was a member of Pleasant View United Methodist Church and North Central Kansas Genealogical Society. Her husband, Raymond, died in 1975. Survivors include a son, Randy Lew of Dublin, Ohio; a daughter, Betty Lou Parton of Mount Pleasant, Iowa; a brother, Maxell Williams of Kansas City, two sisters, Evea Holway and Betty Waggoner, both of Beloit; and three grandchildren. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at McDonald Funeral Home, Beloit, the Revs.

Margaret E. Reinhardt PORTLAND, Ore. Margaret Elizabeth Reinhardt, 92, Portland, died Saturday, Jan. 4, 1997, at Tualatin. Mrs.

Reinhardt was born Margaret Elizabeth Behlmer on March 1,1905, at Algona, Iowa, and was a resident of Portland since 1953. She joined Mr. Hary Hugo's Stock was a member of the Grand Island, Theater Show, and the Charley Worthing's Show. She was a former owner of the Town Tavern Service Station, Sharon Springs, Kan. She managed the Sanctuary of Our Sorrowful Mother Gift Shop, Portland.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee, in 1994 and a daughter, Mary Louise, in 1930. Survivors include three sons, Lewan and John; a sister, Alice T. Behlmer of New York; a brother, Weslee Behlmer of Florida; eight grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. The service will be at 1 p.m. Mountain time Friday in Sharon Springs, Cemetery, the Rev.

Schmitt LEXINGTON, Neb. Norman N. Schmitt, 83, Lexington, died Friday, Jan. 3,1997, at Tri-County Hospital, Lexington. Mr.

Schmitt was born March 9, 1913, at David City and was a longtime Lexington resident. He was a World War II Army veteran. He operated Schmitt's Clothing Stores in various cities; managed paint, wallpaper and office supplies at Stewart Pharmacy for 47 years; and operated a typewriter- repair business since 1943. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Lexington, where he served as elder and trustee. He was a member of American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and was quartermaster of VFW Post 5136 in 1948, when they observed their Golden Jubilee.

He served as master in Boy Scouts. Survivors include his wife, Florence of Lexington; a son, Donald of Salina, a daughter, Nancy Jean Gerdes of Cozad; a sister, Audrey Taylor of Bremerton, and four grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First Presbyterian Church, Lexington, the Rev. Jerry Kuyk officiating.

Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Lexington, with military rites. Memorials may be made to the church or charity of the donor's choice. Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home, 106 W. Eighth, Lexington 68850.

Garfield Svaty ELLSWORTH Garfield Svaty, 90, Ellsworth, died Wednesday, Jan. 8,1997, at his home. Mr, Svaty was born Aug. 21, 1906, in Ellsworth County and was a lifelong resident. He was a retired farmer-stockman and a member of First Presbyterian Church, Ellsworth.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille of Ellsworth; four sons, Ron, Don and John, all of Ellsworth, and David of Kanopolis; two daughters, Linda Talbott of Lindsborg and Ann Hicks of Larned; a brother, Alvin of Smith Center; a sister, Sylvia Vopat of Wilson; 18 grandchildren; and two great- grandchildren. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at First Presbyterian Church, Ellsworth, the Rev. Donald Ray officiating. Burial will be in Ellsworth Memorial Cemetery.

Merton D. Van Eaton STOCKTON Merton D. Van Eaton, 73, Stockton, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 1997, at Plainville Rural Hospital. Mr.

Van Eaton was born Aug. 29,1923, in Smith County and was a Stockton resident since 1948. He was a postal clerk and carrier for many years in Stockton and was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Phillipsburg. Survivors include his wife, Margaret of the home; two sons, Quentin of Stockton and Robert of Norton; his mother, Nora Van Eaton of Kensington; a brother, Burton of Agra; two sisters, Carmen Rice of Kensington and Doris Pruitt of Salina; and five grandchildren. The funeral will be at 10 a.m.

Friday at Zion Lutheran Church, Phillipsburg, the Rev. Katherine Yarnell officiating. Burial will be in Germantown Cemetery, Kensington. Memorials may be made to the church. Visitation will be from 9 a.m.

Prescott died Sunday, Jan. 5,1997, at Salina. Mrs. Weis was born Hazel Mae Allen on Jan. 22, 1901, at Trenton, Mo.

She was a homemaker, a member of First Presbyterian Church, Union Pacific Old Timers Club and Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Friday and after 9 a.m. Saturday at the mortuary, 137 N. Eighth, Salina 67401. John Parker Williams PACE, Fla.

John Parker Williams, 33, Pace, died Monday, Jan. 6, 1997, at a local hospital from injuries received in an auto accident. Mr. Williams was a Pace resident for five years and was a 1981 graduate of Salina, South High School. He was an Air Force veteran.

He was an air-traffic controller at Pensacola Regional Airport and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church, Pace. Survivors include his wife, Trudy of Pace; two daughters, Jessica Arin Williams and Juliann Williams, both of Pace; his father and stepmother, John Austin and Dody Williams of Las Vegas; a brother, Jim of Mechanicsburg, Ohio; a sister, Rebecca Mach of Massachusetts; and a grandmother, Yolanda Coutinho. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. today at Immanuel Baptist Church, Pace, the Rev. Stan Pritchett officiating.

Zerr QUINTER Clemens A. Zerr, 96, Quinter, died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 1997, at Gove County Medical Center Long Term Care Unit, Quinter. Mr. Zerr was born July 6, 1900, at Frantzfeldt, South Russia, and was a U.S.

resident since 1903. He was a farmer-stockman, retiring in 1965. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, Park Council 2538, 3rd Degree and charter member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Park. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; an infant son, Leo; a daughter, Agnes Burgardt; and a grandchild. Survivors include two sons, Leonard of Quinter and Eddie of Grainfield; two daughters, Clemie Dreiling of Hays and Marie Kriley of Seguin, Texas; two brothers, Frank of Oakley and Tom of Grainfield; three sisters, Barbara Zerr of Park, Sister Christina Zerr of Great Bend and Margaret Heir of Oakley; 19 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Fri- day at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Park, the Rev. Mark Berland officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. A prayer service will be at 7 p.m.

Survivors include a daughter, Leona Miller of Columbus, four grandchildren; four great- grandchildren; and three great- great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Ryan Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church.
