ID? I VV LLo may be a sleeper I was prepared Tuesday to suffer through the premiere of yet another mid-season replacement series, One Day at a Time. But I didn't really suffer much. The CBS-TV show (which apparently hasn't been bought by any Canadian network, and will be seen only on Channels Watertown) is a lot more promising than expected. While there isn't great deal of originality In scripting, Bonriie Franklin as Ann Romano, a recently-divorced woman who had not made any final family decisions while married, gave a generally credible performance as an uncertain and somewhat frustrated, mother who tries to also be a substitute father to her two teenaged daughters. The oldest daughter, played by Mackenzie Phillips, was reasonably convincing as a 16-year-old throwing a tantrum.

Richard Masur supplies the bulk of the comedy lines as the divorcee's most ardent suitor. Masur, you may recall, also handled comedy rather well In a former CBS series, Paul Sand in Sons and Lovers. The role of the building superintendent, played by Pat Harrington, is one that should have been forgotten. It's a silly role and does nothing for the show. One of the reasons the series may be one of the sleepers of the new crop is that Norman Lear is the executive producer.
