Attorney Francis McGrath and Francis X. Doherty appeared for the fire council and revealed that the state building inspectors are charging the non-profit fire companies in the town ten dollars for inspecting each building owned by I 1 Mi.

Bids received on the construction of the Bain Water District ranged from $7,470 to $8,648 with the Norwich Construction Co. being the lowest bidder. The bids were turned over to the Town Engineer for study and recommendation. Only one proper bid was received on the truck for the Town Recreation Dept.

It was from Frank Swart Sons in Eden, N. Y. who bid $1,995. A bid was received from HowBlll Motors of Elma, N. Y.

but the required check for five per cent of the bid was not included and was disqualified. Bids will be received for the construction of Extension No. 2 of the Hamburg-Orchard Park Water District on January 16, 1962 at 9:15 pjm. Supervisor Charles J. Gaughan read a proclamation which praised the work of retiring Town Engineer William D.

Allen. them. They noted that in the past the state troopers had inspected the buildings and no charge for the service was levied. The town board expressed its concern with the firemen's case and passed a resolution urging the state legislature to repeal that section of the new law which would exclude volunteer fire companies. Town Attorney Harold Baumler advised the board that at the meeting of the Water Resources Board held earlier in the day, the Erie County Water Authority had placed New Junior High School Proposed For Frontier With the opening of school In September 1961, the total student population in the district attending Frontier Central schools had increased to 5,396.

Since 1951 the district has experienced a student growth of 115 per cent or about 11.5 per cent per year. On the other hand, according to the school board, the secondary (high school) enrollment was 782 pupils in 1951 and by September of this year it had increased to 2041 or about 160 per cent. The secondary school enrollment has been increasing at an average of 16 per cent per year they stated. The School Board pointed out that projected growth of the school district will be from 5,677 in 1962 to 7.042 In 1967, a period of five years based on enrollment figures and other factors since centralization in 1951. This growth could double If and when the master sewer district becomes a reality.

Members of the School Board from Frontier Central and Hamburg Central have met with members of the Hamburg Town Planning Board to discuss future needs of the schools with the contemplated future growth of the Town of Hamburg. Blasdell Board Moves To Annex OMGC Land bond issue. The plans call for a 500 seating capacity cafeteria, while the auditorium will take care of 600. A gymnasium and swimming pool with shower rooms and off ices will complete the 1000 student capacity building. It was also pointed out by the school board that arrangements have been made In the plans to build onto the building as the need arises.

According to the board they have spent the past two years working on details and comparing building costs with other schools built in the state. They state the need is very great to have the building under construction as soon as possible and point out that 389 students at the present time are attending the seventh grade at the Arthur Avenue School in the Village of Blasdell. Also 793 Junior high school students in grades 8 and 9 are being housed in the Frontier Central High School Building on Bay View Road, Hamburg. Total students attending the 10th, 11th and 12th grade numbers 859 for a total In the building of 1652 students. The building was originally built to bouse 1500 students.

Voters of the Frontier Central School District will be asked to approve their first Junior high school building about the middle of February. The split level type building will be located on a site now owned by the school district on Amsdell Road. Town of Hamburg, known as the Arnold farm. Architect Earl Martin, who designed the building, advised the school board to the "split level" type of arrangement in order to take advantage of the terrain with its general slope. The estimated cost has been set at $2,593,500 and will consist of 26 class rooms, 6 science rooms, 3 home economic rooms, 3 rooms for art classes, handicap room for Instruction and a library, will also have general offices, 2 Industrial art rooms, a health suite, teachers room, 3 music rooms and a study halL The New York State Department of Education estimates that the school district will be eligible for a Building quota of 10.5 per cent for the project.

The Frontier Central School Board has proposed that the project be financed by a 29 year Village Clerk. Village Attorney Eugene Salisbury was authorized to contact the Town of Hamburg Supervisor to obtain bis aid in the purchase of the old Electric Ave. right of way. The county has inserted a clause in the purchase contract which would restrict the use to municipal purposes only. The Village Board would like that clause deleted before purchase of the property is made.

The cost has been set at $2,500 by the county. The next meeting of the Blasdell Village Board has been set for Monday, January 15, 1962. Drive Carefully The Life You Save May Your Own The BlasdeU Village Board Monday night unanimously approved a resolution to annex the property of Our Mother of Good Counsel Church. The action, offered by Trustee Alfred Clothier and seconded by Trustee John Pyne, is subject to a permissive referendum and will not take effect until after 30 days when the map will be filed making the annexation official. During the- 30 day period, a petition may be presented which would make a vote on the action mandatory to ascertain whether the village residents approved the action.
