Army Answers Bruce Charge Only 20 of 3,000 Men At Depot Play Hockey OTTAWA The army Thursday had an answer for a charge by Norman Bruce, national secretary of the Dominion Civil Servants War Veterans Association, that 18 men employed as grade three storemen at Longue. Pointe, Montreal ordnance depot, had been employed "to play hockey" at $180-a-month salaries. No. 25 central ordnance depot, an army spokesman said, includes personnel from all Quebec commands in addition to a number of civilians. But of 3,000 employes at the depot, only 20 play hockey.

"They hold two practices a week, between 4.30 and 5 p.m., and all but two of these 20 are paid by the hour, so that there is no government expenditure entailed in the practices," the spokesman said. "Games, about three a month, are played at night not at the public expense." He added that there still are vacancies at the depot "for more than 300 veterans and if Mr. Bruce can find ways and means of filling these vacancies with veterans. No. 25 depot will be delighted." KING PRESENT Ei fore the wcildinc. majestic lV.it kinshatn Palace, since 1339 a vr? shadow of iU old self, will into life with four days of festivity, including an reception next Wednesday fur nearly 1,000 guests. Old palace retainers, lone since retired, returned to service this week because the reduced postwar palace staff was inadequate to cope with more guests and more festivity than the palace has seen since the 1937 coronation. The program of events for wedding week opens Monday with a 'ate ball in the palace's main ballroom attended by 1.000 guests ln-rMidin? the heads of the dominions nd colonies. Prime Minister Mackenzie King, now touring Europe, will be Canada's chief representative at all festivities.

PROCESSION TO BALL. The traditional ceremony of the court ball will be re-introduced for the first time since the war with the King and Queen, the princesses and the bridegroom leading royal procession through the spacious picture gallery of the palace and down the wide stone staircase into the ballroom. The ball will start with the Kinir and Queen taking the floor, followed immediately by Princess Elizabeth and her fiance. Tuesday there will be a private dinner in the ball supper room for 60 guests, including members of European royal houses. Here the King is expected to extend his first formal greeting to the royal most of whom will be quartered in the palace.

100 AT BREAKFAST At Wednesday's mass reception in the state banqueting room the Kin. and Queen, with the princess and Mouaibatten. will stand by trie entrance receiving guests as names are called out by a toast master garbed in traditional katin breeches and white stockings. C. nests at the reception will Inr'uile Prime Minister Attlee and members of the British cabin rt.

members of the House of Lwds, personnel of the diplomatic corps, and Dominions statesmen, including Mr. King. A wedding breakfast following the actual ceremony will be attended by fewer than 100 guests, confined to members of the royal family, foreign royalty and intimate friends. DANCE FOR FRIENDS Although a running buffet has been substituted for the customary banquet, the ceremonial will follow the lines of the wedding of the King and Queen. The princess will cut the wedding take with Mountbatten's sword and the king ill propose the toast to the bride and bridegroom.

The royal couple will leave for their honeymoon at Broad-lands. Romsey. by train from Waterloo station. Departing from the palace at 5 50 p.m., they will drive to the station in an open landau drawn by four horses with an escort of the Household Cavalry- A small dance party for intimate friends will follow the departure of the bride and bridegroom. AUSTERITY OBSERVED Wedding night parties will be held throughout London's west end but on a reduced scale compared with prewar times.

Although London will see little in-the way of official decorations, the palace will be floodlit in two colors on the eve and night of the wedding. A semi-circle of masts will be planted on grass plots around Victoria Memorial, with banners In yellow, white and mauve. To save electricity, lighting for these will be fluorescent. The austerity ruling has been widely taken to heart. Some persons have paid as much as 50 i52)0 for a window seat along the processional route and up to 5 to attend a west end dinner dance.
