I have been following the last session closely, but I certainly cant understand how they can ask us to elect them and give us nothing in return.

It took them six weeks or more to settle the Newfoundland question. I believe that this was due to Col. Drew fiddling with trifles. Canada has been losing foreign trade left and right. What did the Grits do? Nothing.

When his ing career ended in 1927 he had won an amazing total of 413 games. Later he managed the Senators and the Cleveland Indians. Who was he? The Star Analysis of Strike Commended Sir; I am not trying to add to the publicity given the Asbestos Mine workers who are out on strike.

Mr. H. L. MacPherson (in a recent editorial) gave a fine, clear-cut analysis of the situation in Asbestos. Quebec.

I clipped the editorial from The Star and showed it to many of my fellow workers. My reasons for writing are to thank The Star for its honest coverage of this shameful situation and to urge as many as I can to watch this strike more closely, for herein lies a situation of great political significance to the people. Mr. Maurice Duplessis the Colonel Drew of Quebec, and another front man for big business has called in the provincial police of Quebec to break this strike. The police are fully armed and under orders to keep law and order at any cost to the workers skulls.

The police are being paid a bonus by affected plants of $50 a week, while the workers, who created this asbestos empire, go hungry, so I understand. The dictatorial manner in which Duplessis acted is show'n by the fact that the local authorities in Asbestos were quite capable of handling the situation, and they did not ask for outside aid. Regardless of this, the provincial police were ordered in. Even though this strike has gained nationwide attention and support, our government in Ottawa has failed to take any action. There are some who will say: This is a provincial matter.

Mediterranean seas" ate joined election lime is coming "ith the Atlantic by means (if 1I, the Liberal setup, in my opinion. Now lets turn to Opposition Leader Drew. What has he tried to do for us since he has been in Ottawa? He tried to take away our rent control. He did condemn the Liberals about the taxes, as if he didnt like the tax himself. We can recall, when he was premier of Ontario, the Liberals in Ottayva dropped the amusement tax.

He picked it up, covered it with candy and called it the subsistance for hospitals. Mr. Harrison trys to make us believe that he has a laugh on the C.C.F. because it nominated Archie Cherniak for Essex West. He goes on to tell us that Archie is a successful business man, (as if we didnt know) because of principles other than the C.C.F.s so therefor the party possibly has picked the wrong man.

Mr. Cherniak is a successful business man; he will also be the same in politics, and that is because he understands the little fellow, and there are more little fellows than big guys. Archie pulled through the last depression in business, and he does not wish to see another one. Good luck to you Archie. Mr.

problem, but only because the Eno Canal say: When provincial rights are placed ahead of human rights, then its time our B.N.A. Act was overhauled. We, the people, have two obvious duties to perform for ourselves and the asbestos miners. We can boycott asbestos products. If we do not do this, we are no better than the strike breakers, for indirectly we will be paying their bonuses.

We must become very political conscious and judge each political party by its actions as well as platform promises and then support the party which will give the people the greatest amount of democratic freedom.
