GOLF OF CANADIANS Miss Ada Mackenzie and Miss Pepler Given Special Mention. LONDON, Dee.

II. Th quality of the game played by women golfers In Canada mad a strong Impression on Miss Cecil Lei ten during her tour of Canada and the United States this summer, according to an Interview she gavs a London newspaper devoted to sporting matters. "I was particularly struck with the ladles' golf In the Dominion," said Miss Leltch. "Of the outstanding players In Canada Miss Ada Mackensle and Miss Pepler were probably the greatest. Mrs.

Hope Gibson of Hamilton, Ont the first winner of the Canadian ladles' championship, was also a very strong golfer, and Mrs. Hurd (formerly Miss Dorothy Campbell, the famous Scottish player) In the United States was noes showing golf as good as that which she exhibited when she was winning championships In this country. "f-f-H-M- fTTTT TIA MM STAKES' MBIT AND WOMEN CLASH OVEB TOUKirSY DATES. The clash In dates between -f 4 the ladles and men's amateur 4 golf championships In Great Britain is causing a great deal of discussion in British golf circles at present, according to 4 word received In New York from abroad. Both events are scheduled to take place In the same week, starting on Mon- day. May 7. Efforts have failed thus far the start when Harris, who was out of the play-off a year ago, snatched up a beautiful pass from Boucher right in front of the Regina nets, and from then on It was simply a question of how far the locals would win.

They ouUkated, outchecked and outplayed Regina from start to finish. CAPS' DEFENSE WEAK. Perhaps the Capitals were leg- weary after their long trip to the Coast, but they did not look like the same team that played Vancouver to a standstill in the same arena last March. Their defense was the weakest part of the team. McCusker, Wesley Champ's recruit goaltender, received bin first baptism of Coast hockey and shots rained In on him so thick at times that the youngster heaved a sigh of relief when the final whistle sounded.

He appeared to be somewhat nervous at the outset and allowed two soft shots to slip Into the nets. HAY IS VISITORS STAR, The defense In front of the nets simply could not cope with the combination of the speedy Vancouver forwards and the result was that Vancouver skated right In on top of the nets before shooting. Hay was the outstanding star of the visitors. His stlckhandllng, checking and shooting was all that could be desired, but he was Invariably forced to make his final effort from the blue-line as Cook, (Patrick and Mackay gave Hugh ILehman his easiest night's work for several seasons. 6TAXLEY SLOWS CP.

McVeigh also showed to advantage and Dick Irvln, while he was on the ice, showed flashes of his old-time speed. Barney Stanley has slowed up since he played with Vancouver. His backchecklng was his strongest asset while on the Coast, but last night he did not have the speed to skate back with the Vancouver attack when the Maroons engineered one of their many rushes. Perhaps the most outstanding feature of the game from a purely local standpoint was the combination of the entire Vancouver team. At least a.

Saskatoon opened the scoring inside of three minutes but after Calgary tied It up, there waa nothing to the game as the Bengal tribe displayed vast superiority In all departments of hockey. Captain loyd Cook and "Smoky" Harris were the outstanding stars. It is doubtful If the energetic manager of the Coast champions had displayed more brilliant form tn any previous engagement In Vancouver. Hie four goals aroused the enthusiasm of the huge crowd In attendance and when he skated off the Ice at the finish he was accorded quite an ovation by the fans. see Boucher also displayed brilliant form. His back-checking reminds one of Barney Stanley when the manager of the prairie champs wore a maroon sweater.

Stanley has slowed up somewhat since he appeared at the Denman Arena. He was completely bewildered by the phenomenal speed of the locale last night and simply could not keep up with the pace. Ernie Parkes, while he was en the Ice was a tower of strength to the team, but appears to be the real hard luck player of the league. Whenever he got an opening his spot was usually dead on the mark, but McCusker was right on the Job and turned them aside while he allowed other "soft" ones to escape his notice. Keep trying.

Ernie, the last season Barney Stanley played on the Coast he only scored one goal, but that was the point that decided the P. C. The Victoria inngul was managing the Sound City septette at that line.

Skinner Poulln, who formerly held down one of the wing positions for the Cougars when hockey was first Intro, dined on the Coast, had charge of the whittle. Skinner has a fine knowledge of the game from a playing standing, but It Is doubtful If he knows anything about the free penalty shot. He had the opportunity of using his authority In this respect several times last evening but always faced the puck off. Vancouver were the sufferers In this respect as Pernv Traub was continually Infringing the rules. Even at that he drew two penalties for minor offences.
