C. McKean County Motor Club; a membership organization, composed of over 4,000 motorists, has always been vitally interested in the safety of the school children of McKean County and for this reason, has always been rated among leading clubs in the state and nation for its school child safety activities. The Motor Club budgets approximately $5,000 each year for School Safety movement.

These funds are used to furnish all county schools with belts, badges, flags, poles, raincoats, school safety posters and lesson sheets. I fully realize that for. the past several years there has been; agitation on the part of a few people to get the Parent Teacher Organize ions in Kane to drop their support of the Washington trip.

Doesn't this seem, odd when each year the Washington Parade grows larger than the previous year i when you consider that, a large number in yesterday's Republican, as well as the squad pictures in today's Republican, were taken by ku Man fredo for the Quarterback Club. He unearths them in the darndest places. Of late he has been studying the great hoop craze which impels supple children and Junoseque matrons alike to keep a large plastic, ring awhirl by skilled agitation of the pelvis.

Some 200 million of the gadgets have been sold since early summer. Unsubtle dolts like us might conclude that the fad has caught on thus merely because people have found that hoop twirling is fun. Not Mortimer. The Snacklebarth theory is that it all reflects a national guilt feeling because Hawaii has been denied statehood. If this seems rather obscure, read on.

Where, asks Mortimer, has pelvic undulation been developed as a fine art? In Hawaii, of course, where hula dancers are as common as parking meters on Main Street. The hoop craze, says he, reflects the subconscious wish of millions of Americans to. identify themselves with the islands. As noted above, 'Mortimer finds Deep Meanings in the darndest places. Still, it'll be interesting to see what happens to the Hawaiian statehood bill after a few months of these goings on.

If the hoop craze' spreads to members of Congress, they may wind up moving the nation's capital to Hawaii unless, of course, too many of them are laid up with ailing sacroiliacs. around the house Kane Boy "as in oiner area ai iai sieat Scouts will collect waste paper in er cost man me measiy a the near future, for the first time proximately) that the Kane organi in over a year Residents arcizations have been raising. Can it be that the folks down South have a higher regard for their young people than gome PTA members in Kane? I realize that Kane has a fine new Junior High school and that the seventh and eighth graders are no longer in the grade schools, however, this does not create an unusual situation since most of the grade schools in the country draw from the fifth and sixth grades for their school safety patrol members. Experience has shown that children from these grades make excellent patrol workers.
