The extension, already approved by the Senate, was sponsored by Fisheries Minister It was opposed by Maj. Gen.

G. R. Pearkes, V.C., (P.C.-Nanaimo) who urged that the agreement be submitted to the fisheries committee. Gen. Pearkes said a definite limit should be placed on the North Pacific sealing herd.

It was estimated the herd consumed more than 2,500,000,000 pounds of fish on the Pacific Coast each year. He suggested fish were more urgently needed than sealskin coats. J. L. Gibson said investigation had shown that the seals eat little of the fish sold on commercial mar boats, fishing.
