BY ALEXANDER HOTZ Staff Writer Lateisha and Latoya Higgins, two 16-year-old twins from Glen Rock, wanted to meet The Jonas Brothers, a bubble-gum pop band that has stolen the hearts of 'tween and teen girls across the country. The sisters had waited in lines and gone to concerts, but despite these whole-hearted attempts, they had been unable to get close enough to even say hello. "I said, 'Give it up you will never get to meet these said Mary Higgins, the girls' mother. "Watch them on TV and forget about it." With defeat seemingly imminent, the twins seemingly resigned themselves to stargazing from afar. However, Latoya Higgins refused to sit idly by and let the Brothers' publicist decide when and where the band would appear on TV.

She wrote a series of e-mails to "The Oprah Winfrey Show," in which she asked the empress of daytime TV if the Brothers could appear on the program. "Latoya just asked her Oprah if she could have the Jonas Brothers on her show. They just wanted to watch them perform on TV," said Mary Higgins. "That was all they asked." Oprah not only answered the e-mails, she also responded by invit- ON HEATING OIL 2 Oil Diesel Oil and Gas Boilers Oil Tank Abandonment G.R.H.S Grad. "They asked us to come out to Chicago, where we could watch the taping on March 27" said Lateisha Higgins. "The Jonas Brothers were going to be on the show and we would have a chance to meet them." In typical Oprah fashion, the offer came with all expenses (flight, hotel, limousine, and meals) paid. "I was the one who picked up the phone and I was shocked," said the girls' grandmother, Cynthia Clarke.

"I never thought she would respond to the letter. It was amazing." On Wednesday, March 26, the sisters, their cousin Kenya Slater, 12, and their friend Molly VonLindern, 13, left school early to catch a plane to the Windy City. At the airport they were picked up by a black stretch limousine and taken to the four-star Omni Hotel in downtown Chicago. After a night at the Omni, they were picked up in the morning, again by a limousine, and taken to the show. "I thought it was a dream," said Latoya Higgins.

"It was awesome. I still think it was a dream. Oprah was really funny. She just acted like a teenager." Lateisha Higgins echoed the comments of her twin. "It was awesome!" said Higgins.

"She Oprah was really nice and really, While the girls were invited to Chicago, they weren't the only ones who wrote e-mails to the show. Thousands of other fans participated in a letter-writing campaign to get the Brothers on Oprah. "I received thousands of e-mails from your fans begging, pleading to have you guys here, the most for any guest this year," Oprah said while interviewing the band. "They barraged us." The show, which was taped on March 27, aired on April 24. The Jonas Brothers are composed of three brothers: Joe, Nick, and Kevin.

They are originally from Wyckoff, and attended Eastern Christian High School in North Haledon. The Brothers have two albums: "It's About Time," which was released in 2006, and "Jonas Brothers," which was released in 2007. They will release their next album, "A Little Bit Longer," on Aug. 12. "Of the little we saw of Chicago, it was beautiful and we had a good time." Not surprisingly the girls were also enchanted when they met the Brothers. "It was amazing!" said Lateisha. "They were really nice and polite.

I've been a fan since 2005, so I really enjoyed it." Lateisha also said she appreciated how friendly the Brothers were to their fans. "I like how they are really polite when they meet new people and how when they do their shows, they introduce themselves," she said. "They're really nice gentlemen." Latoya was equally smitten. "I still can't believe it happened," said Latoya.
