St (VI SportsLife East 8U team members are all stars GIRLS' SOCCER jFord and jVega score for Vikings SHANE FORCE Sports Correspondent In a game between two cross-town rivals fighting for .500 records, the Parsippany Hills Girls Soccer Team handed Parsippany its seventh loss of the season. Jackie Ford and Janelle Vega both scored goals to lead the Vikings in a 2-0 shutout Junior Lauren Garbarino made her first start as the Par Hills goalie, had eight saves and held the Red Hawks scoreless Wednesday, Oct. 15. Toni DeMaio assisted Ford and Vega on each goal. WRAPUP Girl's soccer In a game held during the last week of October, the Parsippany High School girl's soccer team topped Butler, 2-1. Sara Cramer recorded both goals for the winning side.

With the victory, Parsippany improved to 9-9-1 on the season. In other local competition, Brittany Alper and Ashley Miller collected the goals and Lisa Surowe-ic preserved the shutout in net as Montville blanked Passaic Valley, 2-0, in a Northern Hills Conference match. The Parsippany Hills High School Marching Band won first place in the United States Scholastic Band Association's Group 2A New Jersey States Championship on Oct. 26, at Washington Township High School, in Sewell. The band, under the direction of Richard DeCicco, was one of 14 state high school bands competing for the coveted title.

They also took first place awards for Best Music, Best Percussion, and Best Overall Effect. Band Members had worked hours each week since late last summer and were happy and proud to capture the state title in their division. The Band finished out their undefeated season as they battled the best bands from the northeastern part of United States on Nov. 2 at The Her-sheypark Stadium in Hershey, PA. COMPETITION Band thrills crowd On Oct.

11, the Parsippany High School Marching Band gave a thrilling performance at Giants Stadium for the USSBA Yamaha Cup. This year's performance is titled "Nightmare!" and includes portions of Symphony Fantastique's Sabbath Night's Dream, Night on Bald Mountain and music from the movies "Psycho," "Lady in the Water," "Saw" and "Friday the 13th." The drama on the field includes a large spooky tree, a haunted bed and zombie-themed color guard. The band is directed by Joseph Stella and more information on performances can be found at PHSbands.com COLLEGE WRAPUP Local sports fans are focused upon the happenings on the gridiron, tennis courts, soccer pitch, etc. as the high school fall season is continuing toward its plateau. But, we mustn't forget those student-athletes who are now competing at the next level-the collegiate level.

Below are some of the names that fans may very well recall from their high school athletic days, which were not all that long ago. This is the first installation in the series: Joseph Serrao, Parsippany High School, is a member of The College of New Jersey's football squad this season. Serrao is listed as a freshman offensive lineman for the Lions. Paulina Romero, Parsippany Hills High School, played in 10 of the first 13 contests for the Drew University women's soccer team this fall. Romero, a freshman, had an assist during that span for the Rangers.

Drew was 6-4-3 after 13 regular season games. Through 13 games this fall, Diego Ocampo from Dover High School started in 10 of them for the Felician College, Lodi, men's soccer program. Ocampo, a junior, had an assist as a defender for the Golden Falcons. Jenn Vasta from Boonton High School is a freshman on the roster of the Centenary College, Hack-ettstown, women's cross country team this fall. Colin had three touchdowns on the ground, including one from nearly 75 yards out, for the Scarlet Knights. Hills outscored Summit, 15-0, in the fourth quarter to send the game into extra time. The Knights will travel to meet up with Dover on November 7. West Morris blanked Morris Knolls, 27-0, recently. The winning team collected a touchdown in each quarter.

The Golden Eagles will travel to Morristown on Nov. Hills lead, 20-0, after three quarters of play and will be on the road against Hanover Park on Nov. 7. Al Martello rushed for two touchdowns and caught a TD pass from Viiny Lizza as Montville handled Millburn, 42-6, in a Northern Hills Conference contest.
